Queen Charlotte lived from 1744 to 1818. She was the Queen Consort of George III, King of Great Britain.
Her name in full was Sophia Charlotte. If she had used her first Christian name of Sophia, then Great Britain would have had a Queen Consort Sophia.
She was born in Mecklenburg-Strelitz. Her parents were Duke Charles Louis Frederick and Duchess Elizabeth Albertine.

Charlotte's marriage contract contained the following conditions:
The young Princess should leave Mecklenburg-Strelitz for Great Britain immediately, join the Anglican church and be married in Anglican rites, and never involve herself in politics.

Queen Charlotte had a Christmas tree set up at Queen's Lodge, Windsor, in December of 1800. From the branches hung bunches of sweetmeats, almonds and raisins in papers, fruits and toys.

Only after her brother Adolphus Frederick succeeded to the ducal throne of Mecklenburg-Strelitz in 1752 did Charlotte gain any experience of princely duties and of court life. Adolphus Frederick (1738-1794) reigned as Adolphus Frederick IV.
