QuoteThis essay will analyse a portrait of Louise de Keroualle, who was the French mistress of King Charles II of England. The analysis will include a discussion on the patronage, display, function and form of the painting. The artist of this work is unknown but the painting has been attributed to Henri Gascar. His style will be compared to that of Sir Peter Lely who was the favoured society portraitist and court painter of the time.

I did not know that Charles II had a French mistress. King Charles II appointed Louise de Keroualle a lady-in-waiting to his spouse Queen Catherine.
