Scarborough Castle is in North Yorkshire, England. Scarborough Castle was a large royal castle.   
In 1312 King Edward II's lover Gaveston took refuge in Scarborough Castle and was starved into surrendering.

In 1265 Scarborough Castle was committed to Prince Edward, later Edward I, who held court there in 1275 and 1280.

King John invested a large sum in repairing and reinforcing Scarborough, one of nine English castles in which he showed a special interest.
