A thread to discuss the various non-reigning royal families of Italy: Savoy, Aosta and Two Scilies' news, current events and general discussion.

A Prince serving pasta from a food truck is not common. It goes to show that even royals can do things regular people do.

Quote
The Italian Prince Emanuele Filiberto (44) is in Los Angeles started a new enterprise: a food truck. Not one that would be expected of the grandson of the last Italian King Umberto II, who in 1946 following a referendum had to take farewell of the throne. If Italy had remained a Kingdom, then was now Crown Prince Emanuele Filiberto.

However, only a title's life, and so has Emanuele Filiberto Italy since 2002, when the ban on the stay of the male members of the Royal family, raised in various high-profile adventures often paid up. He first tried to gain influence by joining elections as candidates, but the Italians clearly had no appetite for a political role for the Prince of Venice.

Call it a case of role reversal, but with the opening of a new food truck operating out of Los Angeles, you can eat like a royal and be served by one, too.'

Prince Emanuele Filiberto di Savoia of Piedmont and Venice, the grandson of King Umberto II, the last King of Italy, operates the Prince of Venice (POV) food truck.

"I always want to contribute in the promotion of Italy," the Prince said in an interview with CBS Los Angeles.

A Monte Carlo princess could be fined millions of pounds for refusing to reveal the location of her film star mothers fortune, including a 50m painting, a court heard today.

Princess Camilla Crociani de Bourbon des Deux Siciles appeared at the Royal Court on the Channel Island of Jersey for the latest hearing in a bitter ten-year dispute.

The family feud began when Italian film star Edoarda Crociani set up a trust fund for her two daughters Cristiana and Camilla.

In a formal 2019 decree, the Duke of Savoy, Prince of Naples and by the grace of God direct heir to Head of the Royal House of Savoy, amended a medieval law that for centuries had restricted succession in his royal line to male heirs.

He bumped our beloved granddaughter Vittoria Cristina Chiara Adelaide Maria up the royal food chain, making her the first woman in 1,000 years to be invested with the authority to eventually lead the family and stake a claim to the defunct monarchy.

?It was the best gift he could give me,? Vittoria, now 17 and a burgeoning Instagram influencer, said from her Paris home.

Totally illegitimate,? said Prince Aimone di Savoia Aosta, a cousin and rival claimant, who works as an executive for the Pirelli tire company in Moscow.

And so began the latest chapter in an ongoing dynastic dispute between the pretenders to Italy's pretend throne. There are bitter feelings, thrown punches, warring noble committees, dukedom politics and as of last month, Vittoria's ascending social media status.

What there is not is an actual crown to fight over.

Italy is a republic, having abolished the monarchy 75 years ago for its disastrous support of Mussolini, and Italians have approximately zero interest in a royal restoration.

Yeah.....not going to happen.   I really don't think Italians want or care to have a monarch.  She and her family can declare themselves rulers all they like but other than their apartment, they aren't going to be ruling much.  She may want to have a backup plan.

Would Princess Vittoria's father's regnal name be Emmanuel Philibert I or Emmanuel Philibert II?

Still newer to this forum so I hope this is the right section.

Prince Amedeo, Duke of Aosta died at the age of 77. He is one of the two rival claimants to the Italian throne.

Morto il principe Amedeo di Savoia, duca d'Aosta: aveva 77 anni, era stato da poco operato

QuoteThe Duke of Aosta, Prince Amedeo, one of two rival claimants to the headship of the former royal house of Italy, died at the San Donato Hospital in Arezzo this morning, aged 77. The Duke had been admitted for kidney surgery five days ago and was waiting to be released from hospital when he died from cardiac arrest.

The Duke was married twice. His first wife was Princess Claude of Orleans who he divorced in 1982 (annulment in 1987) who is the paternal aunt of the current Count of Paris. He married his second wife Silvia in 1987 who is the daughter of Vincenzo Patern? di Spedalotto, 6th Marchese di Reggiovanni. He was married to Silvia at the time of his death.

His is survived by 4 children (3 by Claude and a natural daughter born from an affair in 2006) and 11 grandchildren.

He is succeeded to his claim (rival) to the throne by his second child and only son Prince Aimone, Duke of Apulia. Aimone is married to Princess Olga of Greece (daughter of Prince Michael of Greece, a first cousin of Prince Philip). The couple have three children, 2 sons and a daughter. The new heir to the title is 12 year old Prince Umberto.

Perfect spot.  Thanks.  And don't worry - if a post is more appropriate elsewhere it isn't hard to move.

It is sad seeing the royal funerals during covid and how many people are sadly missing.

The royals, who were exiled from Italy after the Second World War until 2002, want their collection of tiaras, necklaces, brooches and earrings returned to them from a vault in the Bank of Italy in Rome.

The legal auction is being brought after the children of King Umberto II failed to agree a deal with the bank for the jewels - said to be worth ?250million - to be returned.

Also included in the collection is more than 6,000 diamonds and 2,000 pearls mounted on brooches.

Here's an article with a few photos which are difficult to find as the vault can only be opened in the presence of the President of the Republic of Italy and the Head of the Bank of Italy.

2 June: the treasures of the Italian crown - Salvadori Diamond Atelier

QuoteThis small treasure chest, consisting of a three-tiered black leather case with blue velvet lining, is today valued at over 1.5 billion euros, with more than 1200 carats of diamonds, precious stones and pearls. The contents are known to only a few because the chest has never been opened. Photographs were taken and it was then closed with twelve seals.
The chest can only be opened in the presence of the President of the Republic and the Governor of the Bank of Italy.

The jewels consist of the Ferrea Crown (the Iron Crown of Lombardy), the Choker of the Supreme Order of the Most Holy Annunciation and a couple of bracelets with rectangular links, made in 1868 with diamonds set in gold and silver.

Curryong

I?m sure the contents of the chest are absolutely breathtaking. However, I?m not convinced that keeping them shut away in a chest where only a small group of people (at best)can see them is the best way of preserving these treasures for the future. In an age in which priceless works of art are protected digitally and electronically in famous museums surely the Italian govt could organise a safe haven for them in Rome so at least the population there (and tourists) would be able to come and view them.

TLLK

@Curryong-I agree. Hopefully this might be a reasonable compromise for the Savoys and the Republic of Italy.

The House of Savoy recently held a Mass to honor the 40th anniversary of the death of King Umberto. The Mass was held at Abbaye d'Hautecombe in France. From viewing the photos, it appears that the Crown Prince  Vittorio Emanuel is having mobility issues.

Italian Prince hints Charles should abdicate - after renouncing his claim to the throne for daughter | Daily Mail Online

It?s not quite clear what the Prince of Venice (which I believe is one of Prince Emmanuel?s titles) is actually abdicating from, or what he wishes his influencer daughter to do in her role. There are lots of opinions about whether very elderly monarchs should retire (and certainly his opinion is shared by for example Beatrix of the Netherlands, JC of Spain and Albert of Belgium who did fit the deed to the word.)

However, I?d suggest that this Prince?s good intentions would be a bit more relevant if he had been the heir to an actual viable constitutional monarchy instead of one defunct since just after WW2, before speaking out on his intentions. Instead of spending his time doing whatever in Monaco, that is. Perhaps Albert could give him a few tips.
