Duchess Kate set to make solo visit overseas

The Duchess of Cambridge is heading off on another overseas engagement, Kensington Palace has confirmed. Kate will make a solo visit to Luxembourg on 11 May to attend the commemoration of the 1867 Treaty of London, which confirmed the country's independence and neutrality. The Duchess is undertaking the trip at the request of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, and further details are set to be announced nearer the time. The news comes just ten days after Kate returned from Paris with husband Prince William, following their whirlwind two-day visit to the French capital.

The couple had a jam-packed schedule, which began with a reception and black tie dinner, and included a meeting with French President Francois Hollande at the Elysee Palace. Their varied itinerary also saw the pair meet with victims and first responders from the Bataclan and Nice attacks, and attend the Wales Vs France Six Nations rugby match.

The focus of the visit was very much on the special relationship between France and post-Brexit Britain. But it no doubt resonated with William, whose mother Princess Diana was tragically killed in a car accident in Paris 20 years ago this August. HELLO!'s royal correspondent Emily Nash said: "Although William has visited Paris several times since the death of his mother, this is his first official trip there on behalf of the Government. While his and Kate's visit is very much about boosting UK-French relations, it will also be a poignant one, coming in Diana's 20th anniversary year."

Details of the Duchess of Cambridge's visit to Luxembourg

At the request of the government of Her Majesty The Queen, on 11 May, the Duchess of Cambridge will take a solo one-day visit to Luxembourg. Her visit is to commemorate the anniversary of the signing of the 1867 Treaty of London. The Duchess will also attend a number of engagements to celebrate the cultural and historical ties between the United Kingdom and Luxembourg.

After arriving, the Duchess will first visit the Grand Duke Jean Museum of Modern Art (MUDAM). She will view the exhibits of British artists Sir Tony Cragg and Darren Almond before attending a reception where she will meet young Luxembourgers prevalent in the fields of culture, education, business and the charitable sector.

Next, Her Royal Highness will head to the centre of the capital where she will visit Place Clairefontaine and tour a cycling themed festival. Both the UK and Luxembourg share a passion for cycling. Catherine will meet the most iconic cyclists of the Grand Duchy before meeting children who are designing jerseys for the Tour de France which will be arriving in Luxembourg in July.
