Here is an excellent post by @Minerva regarding media coverage of the royals

The saying 'no publicity is bad publicity' springs to mind. If Harry had worn a tie would this have received as much media coverage? I'm dubious. Every story needs an angle and the trope with Harry is how many faux pas can be spotted or invented to sell copy.

Either there's some Machiavellian plotting going on to bring Harry into line after all of his success' or the press are sticking to their Good brother, Bad Brother angle. In the world's biggest soap opera that is the British Royal Family there has to be a narrative otherwise who would tune in to watch the goings on and goings down? It's like Coronation Street or Eastenders for a niche market. The media know this, their coverage has to be sensationalist and exciting to sell in an increasingly saturated digital media age when at most people are ambivalent about the concept of a monarchy in the 21st century. While digressing far from the point while the population maintain their ambivalence the apathy is good for the resiliance of the monarchy in Britain.
