I have never toasted marshmallows over a campfire, either. Toast, yes, sausages in a frypan yes, damper (Aussie bread) in the ashes of a fire, boiling Billy tea over a fire yes, marshmallows no! I am not a great camper, I have to admit. After my children left home, tent and caravan weekends receded into the past, except on one enjoyable trip.

I do think toasted marshmallows are more a North American thing, though it seems Meghan didn't take a packet of them into the African bush on their recent holiday. She's a self confessed foodie so maybe she's rejected them as being unhealthy!

Many kids in North America including Meghan have likely toasted marshmallows or tried s'mores (toasted marshmallow with one of the following or a combination: chocolate, peanut butter, apple, etc...sandwiched between graham crackers.) It can be very sweet but it's part of the beach bonfire/ camping ritual for many and Meghan would have had access to at least the beaches as a child (Doxweiler and Zuma have fire rings.) Just have to make sure that everything is in a bear proof locker if you're camping in certain parts of North America because you might have a three hundred pound guest enjoying them too! :wink:

Those combinations do sound delicious, TLLK. it would have to be 'Always remember the bears!' Have you ever had any close encounters?
I've seen those YouTube clips of a man opening his car  door and finding unexpected visitors in the shape of two bear cubs rifling through goodies on his front seat. He certainly backed off quickly! Plus the clip of bear pulling open the fridge door after getting into someone's house, and grabbing the food. Thank heavens our Roos don't do that!
