QuoteYesterday, King Felipe VI of Spain and his father, King Juan Carlos of Spain attended a ceremony yesterday for the 300th anniversary of the Marine Guard Company in Marín. Their Majesties presided over the main celebratory event for the 300th anniversary of the Marine Guard Company; it is the predecessor of the current Naval Military School.

The Marine Guard Company was created in 1717 during the reign of King Felipe V "by the intendant general of Navy, Jose Patiño Rosales, in order to train the future officers, before the necessity of having an armada able to guarantee the maritime traffic with the territories overseas," according to Casa Real.

The father and son arrived at the port in Marín where they boarded the Maritime Action Ship "Tornado." On the ship, they were received by the Minister of Defence, Maria Dolores de Cospedal; the Admiral Head of State Major of the Navy, Admiral General Teodoro Esteban López Calderón; and the commander of the ship, Corvette Captain Pedro Jesus Ramos Carbonell.
