Queen's Estimate Comes up Short as Forgotten Rules Wins Long Distance Cup

There was no fairytale ending for the Queen's mare as she finished tailed off last in the Qipco Long Distance Cup having been heavily eased by jockey Ryan Moore.

A royal victory in the opening race of Champions Day is what organisers were praying for but Estimate did not look happy in the early stages and dropped away rapidly as the tempo quickened in a race won by a length and three-quarters by Dermot Weld-trained Forgotten Rules.

With some of the jockeys saying the heavy ground was the worst they had ever encountered at the Berkshire track, an inability to handle the ground, as had seemed the case on soft in the same race 12 months earlier, again looked the case.

Royal racing manager John Warren confirmed that the mare which won the 2013 Gold Cup at Royal Ascot was now retired and off to stud.
