Title: Tiara choices for Harry\\\\\\\'s future wife
Post by: TLLK on October 19, 2017, 03:34:27 PM
A little speculation thread because tiaras are spectacular IMO. :Jen:

Would Harry's wife receive the loan from  current collection like Diana, Camilla, and Kate or would she receive a newly purchased one like Sarah? There is a third option that one is created for her like Sophie's wedding tiara?

Sarah's tiara- Purchased for her use as Duchess of York. Personally one of my favorites from the 20th century and I expect it is waiting for Beatrice/Eugenie to wear one day.

The Royal Order of Sartorial Splendor: Tiara Thursday: The York Diamond Tiara (http://orderofsplendor.blogspot.com/2016/07/tiara-thursday-york-diamond-tiara.html)

Sophie's wedding tiara-Reportedly created from her with pieces used in Queen Victoria's coronation. Not my favorite tiara as I find it rather clumsy. I believe that Sophie was caught up in the fall out of the 1990's divorces. The Royal Order of Sartorial Splendor: Tiara Thursday: Sophie's Wedding Tiara (http://orderofsplendor.blogspot.com/2011/10/tiara-thursday-sophies-wedding-tiara.html). Sophie now has two other tiaras for her use and both feature aquamarines. The Royal Order of Sartorial Splendor: Tiara Thursday (on a Friday): The Wessex Aquamarine Necklace Tiara (http://orderofsplendor.blogspot.com/2016/05/tiara-thursday-on-friday-wessex.html).

Camilla's tiaras-She's worn her family tiara and two of the late QEQM's larger ones which I find work with her hairstyle. My favorite one being the Honeycomb.

The Royal Order of Sartorial Splendor: Flashback Friday: A Few of Camilla's Sparkliest Things (http://orderofsplendor.blogspot.com/2012/07/flashback-friday-few-of-camillas.html)

Kate's tiaras-http://orderofsplendor.blogspot.com/2016/04/tiara-thursday-tiaras-of-duchess-of.html This blog article features all three that she's worn publicly: Cartier Halo-Wedding, the Lotus and Cambridge Lover's Knot. I like all three but I lean toward the Lotus because of it's delicate design. Cartier Halo seems to be a "starter" tiara for the family with QEQM, QEII, Princesses Margaret and Anne wearing them early on. Lotus was primarily worn by Princess Margaret. Cambridge Lover's Knot was Diana's loan from the BRF collection. Reportedly not her favorite due to it's weight and the "clanging" pearl drops.

My own choices for Harry's wife include: From the BRF collection: Cartier Halo for a possible wedding/starter tiara and the Lotus. Both are lovely choices with ties to QEQM who was the wife of a PoW/King's second  son.
However there is a chance that Charles might purchase a tiara for Harry's wife. Based upon his gifts to his wives and daughter-in-law, I believe that Charles likes to shop for jewelry.

The beautiful Spencer tiara that Diana wore for her wedding and throughout her tenure as PssoW I think would not be available as it would be reserved for the current Countess Spencer.

Here are some of the new and purchased wedding tiaras from various royal houses.

Apologies as the link with Kate's tiaras didn't work.

I love tiaras but I'm very glad I've never had to wear one.

Yes the imagery of a tiara often clashes with the reality of wearing a heavy piece of jewelry on your head. I can understand why QEII prefers her lighter Girls of Great Britain and Ireland and the Empress of Japan has given up wearing them all together.

It's an intriguing question isn't it--which tiara for Meghan's wedding day? Of those in the Royal collection I love the Lotus myself, very delicate and pretty. However, I do think that a tiara purchase for Meghan is more likely than not. I just hope that if Charles does the buying that he goes for something with a bit of historical provenance.

And I don't want a clunky affair made from odd bits and pieces in the vaults, like Sophie's, thanks. She was a nice looking bride but that tiara was not impressive, especially teamed with the odd-looking necklace that Edward so lovingly had 'crafted' for his bride. I hope Harry doesn't have similar ideas!

I do think one will be bought for these two, as Harry's line will cease to be Royal in a couple of generations (if he actually has children of course, and barring some dreadful catastrophe) so it will be strictly in their hands.

Opportunities to wear tiaras have become so few in the Queen's reign that one will suffice, and loans from the Royal vaults in case of Scandi weddings in the possible future, and for any tiara events in Charles's reign. If Meghan gets on well with Camilla, and she might, then she may get a tiara loan from step-mother in law's collection for any State Dinners etc.

I have to agree that Harry's future wife should not receive something like Sophie's wedding tiara. Even the the elements that created it are quite historic, it always has looked rather clunky and slap dash IMO.

There are lovely pieces that are available at auction, but I do believe that Harry's future wife will need something that could be versatile enough to wear for many occasions.  Something similar to Queen Mathilde's Laurel Wreath wedding tiara or Princess Marie's floral tiara would be excellent choices.

Yes I could see Camilla loaning out one of the smaller tiaras from her own collections ie: Shand-Cubitt tiara.

WAIT HOLD THE PRESSES!!! I just found out that QEII has reportedly loaned Camilla a third tiara that we've not seen her wear yet. It's the Teck Crescent which had been used by QEQM and was returned to QEII after her death.

The Teck Crescent Tiara | The Court Jeweller (http://www.thecourtjeweller.com/2017/01/the-teck-crescent-tiara.html) Reworked into a more contemporary shape, this could work.

I don't think the Teck is Camilla's cup of tea, and to be truthful it's not mine either. I do prefer more koloshnik (ugh can't spell) type tiaras really, though others are very pretty too.

Yes, TLLK, any purchased tiara will have to be versatile. Diamonds only I'm afraid (I love coloured stones.) I was very surprised at the choice of the tiara given to Princess Sofia of Sweden. I don't particularly like its design, and I'm afraid I have the sneaking suspicion that not very much was paid for it. However, for me, to have emeralds (on prongs) when you are going to wear gowns of various colours, was the main objection.

Sofia actually was a sweet looking bride. I watched the wedding, very dignified yet joyful as only Scandi royalty can do. However, when I saw her tiara I thought 'Hmm, might be a problem if you're wearing red, yellow or tawny colours in the future!' and the royals there wear tiaras a lot. (I'm in heaven when I view their ceremonies!)

Luckily for Sofia the Queen has been very generous about lending tiaras and other jewellery, so she's been fine. But I do think buying a basic tiara with coloured stones is restrictive.

I don't think it's appropriate for Meghan to use  the Shand-Cubitt tiara and Camilla may not even be thinking of lending it.. I think it would be appropriate down the road for the weddings of Camilla's granddaughters.  Since Harry is Spencer by descent, I think the Spencer tiara would be more appropriate. Thought it is doubtful that Earl Spencer would lend it.

I think a tiara of the Queen Mum or Queen Mary would be very appropriate.

@sandy-Yes I agree that any of the smaller tiaras not in use by QEII, DoC, DoCam, and PR would be a good loaner choice for Meghan. However I do agree with Curryong that perhaps a purchased or refashioned  all diamond tiara ie: Similar to Sarah's tiara that is gifted to her might be a very good option too. That way the tiara then remains with Harry's family and descendants for the future.

Tiaras from the current collection would likely be for a lifetime use only and would return to the BRF upon the death of the royal.

The Strathmore Rose Tiara could make its debut after having not been seen in decades.

^ I think it's in pieces. It hasn't been seen for decades. It's always hopefully mentioned for BRF brides but apparently it was delicate to begin with and the QM hardly even wore it.

I agree @Curryong. If it's no longer in working order, than perhaps it has been dismantled.

IMO something like Mathilde's Laurel Wreath The Royal Order of Sartorial Splendor: Tiara Thursday: Mathilde's Laurel Wreath Tiara (http://orderofsplendor.blogspot.com/2012/05/tiara-thursday-mathildes-laurel-wreath.html) would be a good size, it's convertible to a necklace and it would be versatile.

Now I actually find the Wolfers Necklace tiara to be a very pretty one, I just wish it was a tad larger. The Royal Order of Sartorial Splendor: Tiara Thursday: The Wolfers Necklace Tiara (http://orderofsplendor.blogspot.com/2013/08/tiara-thursday-wolfers-necklace-tiara.html)

Something similar would be a great purchased tiara for Harry's wife.

I agree that the Laurel Wreath is elegantly beautiful. What a pity Meghan isn't marrying into the Belgian RF. :P
However, one can't have everything and the Belgians aren't hugely endowed with baubles, unlike the Dutch, British or Swedish!

I do like the Wolfers Necklace, as a necklace. I know Fabiola looked lovely when wearing it as a tiara, but who has as much hair as Fabiola, who was Queen of The Big Hairdo? Poor Meghan's long black locks are puny in comparison!

I remember Princess Grace looked fabulous in tiaras but even her hair was often in an updo with some extras attached on those occasions. Some of these tiaras do need seriously big hair which is probably why they should be left to Camilla! I think Meghan and Kate are going to have to come to a compromise about the Lotus, and let Meg have it.

I agree @Curryong now that the Cambridge Lover's Knot appears to be Kate's main choice as a tiara that the Lotus would be perfect for Harry's future wife as a lifetime loan. It's dainty, versatile, and the design does not limit her choices for evening wear. With fewer and fewer white tie/gala events on the BRF calendar, the need to use multiple tiaras throughout the year has diminished in the past decades.

It reminds me the most of Fergie's tiara in shape/size and has a nice historic aspect.

The Royal Order of Sartorial Splendor: My Ultimate Tiara Collection: The Lotus Flower Tiara (http://orderofsplendor.blogspot.com/2012/12/my-ultimate-tiara-collection-lotus.html)

However I would also like to see a tiara for Harry's family that would be their's to continue using for generations to come when his descendants are not so closely aligned to the BRF. I'm not sure if that could be the case unless it is permanently gifted to them.

I really like this one. It would be a versatile and stunning choice for Meghan, though it is possible that she will receive one that already exists in the collection or one that is crafted for her.

If a tiara would be purchased for Meghan from Cartier or Bentley & Skinner, do you think it should be a Victorian tiara or an Edwardian tiara?
Title: Re: Tiara choices for Harry\\\\\\\'s future wife

@LouisFerdinand-Not sure if there is a great deal of difference between the Victorian and Edwardian tiaras IMO. The most dramatic change seems to have been in the 1920's and 1930's with the bandeau tiaras worn across the forehead.

Still thinking that the Lotus Flower tiara from the BRF collection would be a versatile and lovely option for Meghan to wear as a loaner tiara. IMO the more "golden" look to the tiara would compliment Meghan's coloring.
