it is fascinating how in the past people wanted everything to be beautiful so even the ceilings were decorated - I especially like the way they manage the transition from ceiling to the wall with all that lovely plaster work and trim.

Of course - one looks at the height of those ceilings and thinks - argh - the heating bill! But still they are breathtaking spaces.
