In May 1965 Queen Elizabeth II made a trip to Germany. This was the first time a British sovereign had visited Germany since 1913, when her grandfather, King George V, went to see his relatives. Newspapers and magazines stressed the theme of reconciliation by publishing the Windsor family tree with its German roots.

Just wanted to clarify that in 1965, QEII would have been visiting West Germany or the Federal Republic of Germany. Visits to the German Democratic Republic aka East Germany would not have been easy to arrange. :)
