QuoteThe Duchess is reportedly planning to name a new ship on June 13, a month before her July 13 due date. The Royal Marines Band and the pipers of the Irish Guards will perform as Kate christens Princess Cruises' 3,600-passenger Royal Princess in Southampton before taking maternity leave, The Sun reports.

The naming ceremony will mark the end of Kate's royal engagements, and the beginning of a brief spell of down time before she and William welcome their first child.

A royal source revealed that the hard-working royal is determined to be at the Southampton event: "Kate has really enjoyed her job and wanted to work as close to the birth date as possible. The cruise ship christening on June 13 will be her last official solo engagement."

QuoteHeadteachers from an East Riding secondary school will rub shoulders with royalty when they dine with The Duchess of Cambridge next week.

Goole High School co-headteachers Danuta Tomasz and Dave Flowitt will be treated to a gala dinner with The Duchess, in what will be her last public appearance before she gives birth to her first child in July.

Mrs Tomasz and Mr Flowitt will attend the naming celebrations of the Royal Princess cruise ship in Southhampton.
The out-of-the-blue invite came thanks to the school's ongoing partnership with education specialist charity, SkillForce, whose patron is Prince William.

According to the article, it doesn't look like it's going to be an intimate lunch with just three people.  All the charities have been invited, and this is just one of them.  The Royals always seem to know what to say to everyone (impresses the heck out of me!), and I'm sure everyone is happy just to be invited.  From the article:

QuotePrince William has invited all the charities he supports, including SkillForce, to attend the naming celebrations of the luxury liner. The charity chose Goole High School as their representatives.

QuoteDuchess Of Cambridge To Host Lavish Gala Before Beginning Maternity Leave

Despite the Duchess being more than eight months pregnant it seems it'll be a busy one for her, first christening a new crusie ship the Royal Princess, in Southampton on June 13 before co-hosting a gala dinner with her husband Prince William with the couple choosing amongst their charitable organisations those guests to invite.

Speaking of their excitement of having the Duchess name their latest liner Princess Cruises' president Alan Buckelew said: "It is a great honour for Princess Cruises that Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cambridge has accepted our invitation to become the Godmother to Royal Princess."  "We are delighted that the Duchess will launch our new ship and can think of no better way to celebrate our company's British heritage and our commitment to the country."

Co-headteachers, Danuta Tomasz and Dave Flowitt of Goole High School near Hull, are amongst two of the guests invited along to the gala dinner. Charity SkillForce, of which Prince William supports, chose the school to represent them at the event after receiving an invitation from the future monarch.

QuoteKate Middleton Is Ready to Become Godmother to a Royal Cruise Ship

Some time in the next four or five weeks, Kate Middleton will become a mother. This week she will be a godmother... to a cruise ship. And what a ship it is!

The christening ceremony in Southampton on Thursday will be the Duchess of Cambridge's final official solo engagement before she withdraws from the public gaze to prepare for the birth of her baby next month.

She has come a long way since her first official task, which was to dedicate a lifeboat at Trearddur Bay, near husband William's RAF base on Anglesey.

Royal Princess is the largest ship in Princess Cruises' 17-strong fleet.  Carrying 3,600 passengers and 1,346 crew, the vessel is 1,083 feet long and 217 feet across. It is about 73 feet longer than London's Shard is high, and it is a few feet taller than Tower Bridge.

QuoteKate to Follow in Queen and Diana's Footsteps As She Names Cruise Liner

Kate Middleton is to follow in royal tradition on Thursday when she travels to Southampton to name Princess Cruises' latest liner Royal Princess.

The Duchess of Cambridge will take part in a ceremony to officially christen the Royal Princess and will follow in the footsteps of leading ladies the Queen and Diana, Princess of Wales, who have all become godmothers to these stunning cruises. The late Princess of Wales named the original Royal Princess in 1984.

The expectant mother will christen the 3,600-passenger vessel as her final solo engagement before she takes maternity leave ahead of her mid-July birth.

QuoteDuchess of Cambridge shows her fashion  pedigree in dalmatian print Hobbs coat as she launches Royal Princess cruise ship in last solo appearance before baby arrives

She's eight months pregnant but Kate can still carry off a striking style statement. The Duchess of Cambridge cut a fashion-forward figure as she appeared at Southhampton Docks this morning to christen the Royal Princess.

Forgoing maternity clothes yet again, Kate looked chic in a £169 mac from High Street store Hobbs.

The water-resistant coat was the ideal choice for the blustery conditions at the waterside where Kate listened to a brass band play out before smashing a £1,250 Nebuchadnezzar - a 15 litre bottle of champagne the equivalent of 20 regular 75cl bottles - on the ship's hull.

She paired her coat with a sinemay hat with bow detail from royal favourite milliner Jane Taylor and black court shoes.

I hate to sound like a grinch, but couldn't they smash a cheaper wine and donate that money to the charities as well?
Why waste such an expensive wine?

She  looks great.
Always  does.
She  did well.
Always  does

Her assignments, events  are  mostly  glam, fun.  Easy.
Her  serious  charities  are few  and yes, well  rehearesed, she  is  well studied , quick, a smart  girl and does very  well.

That is how  it  is and will be  I  think safe to say.

She  looks and dresses  like  her station in life before  marrying  which was rich, Upper-Class English  girl, socialite and still does and that is fine. Her style.  This  outfit  was  a bit  more edgy than waht  she usuallly wears. Thank goodness  for a heavy coat and  maybe someone took care of the dress hem as to not  have the dress fly up.
The cost  of the wine.

This  is  a  private company.  If they  wanted  a  $1,000  or $5,000 bottle  of wine, fine. The passesngers  will pay  for that bottle  before  boarding the  first cruise.  The  company  will not  lose  a  penny  or pence .
If this  were  a  public  place, a  new  hospital wing or something,  an expensive bottle  of wine  to  throw  away  would be  gluttony, greed, a waste and just sinful.

There was a tie-in to  a charity  of hers  by  having two kids there from a  children's hospice.
Fine.

Who knows but maybe part of the deal  for her being there was  that the cruise liner  donate   a  small  amount  to thatcharity. I would think it works like  this when  you have  a  high profile person  do something like this.
The  cruise liner  got  great  pr in having her  christen their new ship.

cinrit

^^ The whole cruise liner is over the top. :o  I don't like cruises (especially with all the bad publicity they've been getting lately), but they're supposed to symbolize the ultimate in luxury.  Hence, that £1250 bottle of champagne.  I could feed a lot of stray animals with that money, but ...

I watched the event as it was streamed live earlier.  It didn't last long ... maybe 45 minutes.  Kate did well ... no speeches or anything.  Just christening the ship...

She didn't really have to do that much. She needs to do more with her charities instead of this sort of appearance.
I'm wondering why she had so much rouge on. She looked red in the face.

cinrit

She's about a month away from giving birth.  That's why she's red in the face.  Some people refer to it as "the pregnancy glow".  As for this sort of appearance, the Queen has done the same, and so has Diana ... so she's got some good predecessors.

They have the money, and why not? Its a long standing tradition...  Not everything in this world has to be about charity.

I think it could be rouge. It's a lot redder than Diana's face way back when.
