Inveraray Castle is near Inveraray in the county of Argyll in Scotland.
It is the ancestral home of the Duke of Argyll.
Princess Louise, the daughter of Queen Victoria, married John Campbell, Marquess of Lorne and the future 9th Duke of Argyll on March 21, 1871.

The village of Inveraray was moved in the 1770s to give the castle a more secluded setting.

It wasn't unusual for villages near aristocrats' country houses and castles to be moved at the gentry's convenience, especially as designs for their gardens and Parks on their estates changed. This happened throughout the 18th and 19th centuries. These families also made sure that railway lines didn't run too close to their country estates as railways developed and expanded in the 1840s and 50's. They had great power in their particular part of the country, and many MPs were sons or nephews of aristocratic or country gentry grandees.
