QuoteOn Friday, Queen Sofia participated in the release of two Iberian lynxes.

The lynxes, two females named Lava and Lila, were released into the wild at the Chestnut Farm located near Toledo. In this region, around 20 endangered cats have been released the past year.

Lava and Lila were born at breeding centres Silves in Portugal and Acebuche in Huelva. The breeding and releasing of these cats is part of a programme seeking to reintroduce this cat species to the region Castilla-La Mancha, from where the lynxes have practically disappeared.
