It?s always a contentious issue for the JRF isn?t it, especially considering how much the Emperor Hirohito was involved in the run-up to WW2 and during the war and just after it. That doesn?t mean that the war dead should not be honoured by the IF of course.

The IF canceled the public New Year greetings on the balcony due to the earthquake.  There is speculation that the appearance might be made next month for the Emperor's birthday.

That is understandable. Japan has had a terrible beginning to 2024 and there can?t be public appearances on the balcony while dead bodies are still being recovered from wrecked buildings. The Emperor?s birthday will be better, so long as there are no further earthquakes.
