Why Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will announce their engagement in December
Why Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will be engaged by December

Sure! Diana's chef, who hasn't seen the boys for over twenty years knows all about Harry's engagement timing! I will be interested to see Meghan turn up to some IG events however. I believe she'll be seen at some evening ones as she might well be filming Suits during the day. It seems that the plot of Suits is moving towards a writing out for her character.

Jenee

They will announce their engagement on Christmas Eve, via twitter. My crystal ball told me so!!!

TLLK

That is crazy @Jenee because my son's Magic 8 Ball gave us the same prediction yesterday!!!

LouisFerdinand

If Harry did propose to Meghan, would she actually be able to go Sandringham for Christmas?

Yale

I just read he already proposed during an unannounced trip to Livingston Zambia but  we won't know officially until December when they announce it.  So, we'll see.

Curryong

Kate never went to Sandringham before her marriage so I don't see why Meghan would be allowed. The Queen is an old lady and for her Christmas and the family are sacrosanct.

That doesn't mean they are all there for a week or more. Anne and the Wessexes have been known to stay for a few days and go early, but the bulk of the family arrive on the 24th. The BRF keeps to the old German ways of Queen Vic, and there is a big meal on Xmas Eve and presents are distributed then. Jokey gifts. After that comes a film or games like charades.

On Xmas Day there's the traditional walk to Church, lunch and then the Queen's Speech which she views alone in another room. After lunch most of the family split. Charles goes to Scotland, Camilla to her family, younger members like William before he married, Harry, Bea and Eugenie also leave early. The Yorks, including Andrew, go to see Fergie. Other relatives leave either then or on Boxing Day.

So, even if Harry and Meghan are engaged they'd only be apart for a couple of days. If they are engaged by then there is just a chance that Harry might take Meghan for Boxing Day lunch or tea at Anmer. However, that depends on a lot of things, including what the relationship is (if any) between the Cambridges and Meghan, or even if the Cambridges will be with the Middletons for Xmas.

I don't know what the heck is going on. I think Harry at least is back in Britain. A poster on RD reported that a car with police escort was blaring through her home town in the English shires on Wednesday (British time, we're a day ahead here in Oz) and a bystander informed her that Harry was in the car. No official engagement in the CC , so Big Red must have been just visiting friends, lol.

I'm still sticking my neck out for early September, but December could be it. Who knows. I'm looking forward to the Toronto IG and maybe catching a glimpse of the two of them at some events in the evening.

Yale,

How does the source of the article know Harry proposed in Africa. Just curious.

Curryong

I think they are already privately engaged and have been for some time, though being proposed to in a helicopter over Victoria Falls or Livingston would be up there in terms of romance.

The reason I say this though is (besides a keen ear for Harry happenings, honed over 14 years) that yesterday the Daily Fail pulled a stupid story about Meghan's mum going to the laundrette with bed linen like comforters, quilts etc.  This so-called story was accompanied by photos.

The narrative followed by the Fail was of course 'See, this woman that might be wedding Harry comes from a dirt poor urban background. Her mum can't afford a washing machine/dryer, has to take all her stuff to a laundrette, yet her daughter is swanning around Africa with a Prince! Why hasn't she bought her mum a machine?'

This typical Fail tactic was up for a few hours (with many comments attacking the story) and then got quickly pulled. It's not there any more and hasn't been since last night, Oz time. My feeling is that, while Meghan is in London and may well have consulted her lawyers about this offensive article, it's far more likely that KP/Jason Knauf has (due to Harry's orders) issued a stern warning to the Fail. 'Pull this story or else little access after wedding or engagement for you lot'. It shows Harry's protective arm is still around Meghan and also KP is taking action in the run-up to an engagement which practically everyone knows is coming.

I know nothing of US laundry habits naturally, but on various forums etc there were a lot of US based people pointing out that (a) Doria's washing machine might have packed it in and she has to wait for a repair man (b) a lot of machines, especially if they are small or old, can't cope with large blankets etc or (c) like a lot of Americans who live near a laundrette she may just prefer the convenience of taking her bigger, heavier stuff there.

Anyway, the story's been pulled and I think that's significant.

LouisFerdinand

If Harry believes that the general public anticipates that he will propose in December, do you think he will be strategic and propose in a different month?

Curryong

I think that Harry and Meghan are privately engaged right now and have been for some time (Ive read some stupid story that they are at Balmoral now, visiting the Queen, but they could very well go to Birkhall for a few days this month before Meghan goes back to the States.) They're waiting IMO for the right time to announce the engagement.

As many homeowners and DF commentators know.  even if you have your own washer/dryer you sometimes have to make use of the local laundrette ie: your machine is broken or you have a larger than normal item to launder. I'm glad that the article was pulled too.

The media looks for ANYTHING to report on when it comes to Meaghan. Sorry that it impacts her family as well.

Curryong

^Absolutely, TLLK, and someone on another forum counted some heavy bed linen there, about seven comforters or quilts, many more than is normal for one person living alone. So Meghan's mum was either doing a massive spring clean, helping elderly neighbours out or, one or two posters speculated that as she's a social worker, these items might be donations to the homeless she'd volunteered to have cleaned. I myself don't have a huge industrial strength machine and would probably do the same. Doria may have decided that the laundrette was the best option in the circumstances.
The DM are absolutely vile, and we all know what their little game is!

lk1957

I'm in Los Angeles and her mom's age. I have my own home in a posh area and of course a washer/dryer. But, when I have large items such as carpets or blankets, I often go to the launderette so not to wreck my machine with bulky items. Also we have a water crisis here, and if you go beyond a certain limit you get fined or into a very high cost level for water.  So launderette's are a great option for bulky items.  Boy was that article B.S. I still don't see this relationship lasting forever, even if they marry. But more because I don't think Meghan will put up with things from the RF once she is in it. Of course, that is just my opinion.

FanDianaFancy

I agree with TLLK, Curry, and lk1957.

With the British media, anyone can see their game here.
What were they really trying to say,   :fuming: but did not. Could not.
They knew there was no need to because they public would in their comments.

I think MM and H are the real deal.
You hope it works in that she can stand  and stay in the fire.
The British media are going to go after her like nothing before. PD and C and SarahFerguson only  had it easy on their worst day, worst times.
MM is going to be British public enemy number one. :windsor:
Her mother and father will need to underground. Witness Protection Program, lol,
That half sister will feed any crap , vile stories for a fee and add the half brother making comments, although not vile, but nonetheless, he already put his name and face out there.

My opinion, MM and PH should a wedding like PC , PE, or Zara.
The media, the economy, his rank, the press, MM s mother and father, who would be present, it would be better esp. for MM.

With Hs love, attention, time, TPTB, hopefully who would not try to make her fail, she could do this. She should be advised to never read her press.

So does the new baby push Harry down the list far enough to not need the Queens permission to marry? I cant remember, but I think its somewhere between 5th and 9th in line to the throne?

Under new rules set out a few years ago the first six adults in line to the throne need the Queen's permission to marry, so Harry is still in. Andrew however is not, nor are his daughters Beatrice and Eugenie.

I've never believed that Andrew and Sarah will remarry, however well they seem to get on. They aren't in love with each other and, although friends, have moved on long ago IMO. Although he and Beatrice and Eugenie don't need to ask the Queen's permission to marry any more, I can't imagine them not getting her approval and blessing. It seems an increasingly unlikely prospect for Andrew actually. He seems to enjoy the single lifestyle.

This is a Vanity Fair interview in which Meghan talks about her romance with Harry for the first time. It's rather startling that this has been allowed actually, and I think it's been run past BP in order for it to be so. I'm treating it as a pre-emotive strike before an engagement announcement and the Invictus Games later this month at which she will undoubtedly appear with Harry in some form or another.

Went to purchase this magazine and was not impressed with the article or the pictures.

I find it odd that the Royal Family was so upset if any Middleton Family Member was allowed to an interview, and yet this interview took place.

Will be totally disappointed if this marriage takes place,  I just don't see the spark between the two.

If Harry & Meghan want children I wouldn't be surprised if the engagement/wedding happen fairly quickly. Due to Meghan's age (she's 37 next year) they probably don't want to hang around much longer.

Reading my old posts, I predicted Harry would marry in 2017, so I wasn't far off.

This is ridiculous.  Harry would never tell anyone when he will propose for it to get out and ruin the surprise for Meghan and he romantic aspect of it all? No way! Come on!  No one knows when Harry will do anything except Harry!

Personally, I think they are already engaged, they just haven't shared the news with any one.

Curryong

I agree. This man, a chef who once worked for Diana, knows nothing. I also agree that they have IMO been engaged unofficially for weeks, perhaps since Africa.

I always hoped for an autumn engagement but this looks increasingly unlikely, I have to admit. They might make the announcement after the filming for Suits ends in late November (that I think was was the deal breaker for any earlier engagement announcement. There were persistent rumours that Meghan had repeatedly asked to be written out of the series but the producers held her to her contract.) I do think Meghan will relocate to London after Suits filming ends and will be with Harry permanently then.

amabel

Why don't they just get on with it?  They're not clashing with anything that the RF has goig on at present.. and I think that it seems likely that they are in a serious relationship.. so unless the queen is suggesting or insisting that they try out their relationship for longer why is this draggin on?

Curryong

They can't announce it in the middle of the Totonto Invictus Games, for which hundreds of wounded competitor/ athletes have trained for months and months.

Some on Twitter complained about Meghan being at the opening ceremony of the Games because 'it was disrespectful to the athletes' as it took attention away from them. God knows what people on Tumblr/Twitter would say if they announced it now. They'd probably all have heart attacks!

Harry's In Canada and the Queen doesn't come back to London from Balmoral until the end of this month. She has to hold a Privy Council meeting to announce that she's given formal consent. She can't do that at Balmoral.

There's a train of thought (to which I'm now leaning more and more) that the engagement announcement won't come until after Suits has stopped filming in mid November. Also the Queen and PP's 70th wedding anniversary is in November and mustn't be overshadowed. However, I am hopeful that we will hear something before the end of the year.

TLLK

I agree the timing for the announcement is going to based upon the senior royal's calendar and that will include the Privy Council meeting.
