The country mansion of Audley End, near Saffron Walden in England, was built by Thomas Howard, 1st Earl of Suffolk, between 1605 to 1614. King James I visited Audley End in 1614.

Audley End became a royal palace when King Charles II bought it in 1688 for 50,000 pounds for use as a home when attending the races at Newmarket. It was returned to the Suffolk in 1701.
