King Edward I of England and his first wife Queen Eleanor loved Leeds Castle in Kent and stayed there often. When Edward I remarried in 1299, he gave the castle to his new wife, Margaret of France.
King Richard II gave Leeds Castle to his wife, Anne of Bohemia.
King Henry IV gave the castle to his second wife, Joan of Navarre. The couple stayed at Leeds Castle in 1403 to escape the plague in London.

Leeds Castle, the Ladies' Castle, flies the flags of two ladies alternatively: Eleanor of Castile, the first lady owner, and Lady Baillie, the last lady owner.
