This was indeed unexpected, though security is always tight. A nice surprise, and Meghan is paying tribute to the Irish colours in her clothing choices. Very Spring-like, and they are affectionate with each other as usual. A full programme of interesting events. Meghan's getting some good little glimpses of the different parts of the U.K.

I like the USA/UK patronage, perhaps the couple will be supporting different charities a united USA and UK.

The reports in all broadsheets and tabloids should be more specific as walking from west to east in the USA alone is much much more than 1000 miles. So stopovers and flight rides should be mentioned.

In reference to their engagement today in Bath at the track and field, I feel sorry that most comments everywhere is unfavorable to Meghan's choice of wear, stilettos 5 inch heels.

All of a sudden Kate tube jeans, or jeggins or to the ankle jeans, depending which clothing site with short bolero or to the waist jackets, tennis shoes, espadrilles or block heel boots is hands down what should be appropriate for this type of field trips.

The couple may support vets causes on both sides of the Atlantic, a good idea so long as it doesn't interfere with future similar charities being tucked under the RF umbrella. However, atm this just seems to me to be a natural patronage, considering Harry's past participation in and support of like endeavours such as Walking with the Wounded.

@Curryong-It's been decades since a unmarried British princess attended a gala event. I'm hoping that since Anne and Alexandra both wore tiaras prior to their wedding that QEII might loan each of  her two royal granddaughters a tiara to wear!

I'm sure she will or it will be a jewellers loan. However, I don't know whether the info that Gerts Royals provided is correct. I've been asleep and then out. Has BP commented and stated that Bea and Eugenie are definitely going to be there? I wouldn't be surprised that they are, as there are going to be a huge number of dignitaries at the dinner from all over the Commonwealth and royals have to be spread out amongst them. However, I haven't seen any official memo so far that lists the two Princesses.

QuoteTHE QUEEN'S DINNER AT BUCKINGHAM PALACE

Thursday 19th April 2018

Her Majesty The Queen, Head of the Commonwealth, will host The Queen's Dinner at Buckingham Palace on the evening of Thursday 19th April 2018.

Her Majesty, accompanied by His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales, will receive Commonwealth Heads of Government and their spouses in the Blue Drawing Room, where the evening will commence with a drinks reception. The dinner will take place in the Picture Gallery, where Her Majesty will give a speech.

Members of the royal family in attendance will include the Duchess of Cornwall, the Duke of Cambridge, Prince Harry, the Duke of York, Princess Beatrice, Princess Eugenie, the Princess Royal, Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, the Earl and Countess of Wessex, the Duke of Kent, the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, Princess Alexandra and Princess Michael of Kent.

@Curryong-They'll be present at the Queen's banquet on April 19, 2018. At this point in time it appears that the DoE will not partake in the event most likely as he'll be recovering from his surgery.

Thanks TLLK. This will be exciting stuff and completely new territory for Beatrice and Eugenie. They may not wear tiaras. The BRF tradition is that unmarried women don't. However, many protocol rules have been broken lately, and we shall see.

With Kate out of action it is all hands to the pump, as this will be a big white tie dinner, William's third, Harry's second and the Yorkies' first. I didn't expect to see the Duke of E. I think these big state occasions are getting beyond his capacity to cope now.

Meghan may or may not be invited to some of the receptions, forums etc. It was expected last month that she will participate in some way, even if she is not at the CHOGM formal dinner.

I love, love the hat. I think it's gorgeous. The dress I'm not so keen on as I adore colour and neutral shades in dresses don't do much for me. However, Meghan does look very elegant. The Fail had a little clip up taken from the back in which she and Harry go up the steps and into the Palace and she gives him a gentle back rub!

Meghan seems to be very amused at one point. Apparently Harry was at the podium making a warm and affectionate speech about his father when a bumble bee dive bombed him and flew into his ear! This caused some amusement to his relatives, Charles, Camilla and Meghan, who were standing nearby.

Garden parties at BP are very formal occasions. The Royals dress in morning suits, females in pretty dresses and hats. A bit different wear for visiting a community radio station in Brixton or a charity for the homeless in Scotland.

Pantyhose btw are a big thing in Britain, probably because of the climate. Going without pantyhose is regarded as a bit unusual, and in the winter, chilly. Not so in California, where Meghan grew up, or indeed in Australia unless you're really going to dress up. Few young women wear such things. In Canada of course Meghan kept warm in jeans and boots.

I just checked the "future engagements" section of the British Monarchy site for the Duke of Sussex in the next four weeks and as I expected nothing was listed. I believe that for security reasons, the main KP quartet's engagements are rarely listed there. They seem to prefer using the KP social media.

Yes it is possible that the Sussexes will be at Ascot. I doubt either would be at the Garter Service as Harry is not a member and has only attended for special occasions. We're still waiting to see if there will confirmation of a trip to Ireland in July. AFAIK Harry has not participated in any of the charity polo matches this month, but he might be at one soon.

Meetings with patronages/charities at KP don't usually get advanced notice but typically someone will spot an announcement in the CC that one was held on the following day. If I see it, then I'll post the news.  :)

Harry and Meghan will be at Ascot today. They'll be presenting the prize for the St James Plate in the Winners enclosure.

KP has also announced an Irish trip for both. Dublin July 10th and 11th. At the request of HM Govt etc. Another of those post Brexit charm offensives probably, but there might be something else behind it. A little trade deal perhaps.

They are looking forward to learning more about Ireland's history and experiencing its rich culture, as well as meeting the people who are shaping the country's future.

I understand that all ladies must have proper hats with at least a 4 inch base this year. So Meghan could repeat one of her smaller hats or opt for a new one.

Great news about the visit to Ireland. Do we know which places they are to visit?

Well I would assume that the FO and the Irish government will select safe and noncontroversial activities for the couple. Likely they'll pay homage to Irish war dead and the veterans from WWI and any other conflict that Ireland participated since independence. There will likely be something involving children or the elderly. The couple will visit historic sites that are not harsh reminders of the Irish battle for independence. (Kilmainham Gaol might not be on the itinerary, but a photo op of Meghan kissing the Blarney Stone might be.  :blowkiss:)

They'll be briefed on how to reply in a neutral fashion if any controversial question comes there way.

One might ask what do any of these visits by royals achieve bar perhaps a bit of goodwill, even if they are couched in terms like 'at the request of HM Govt' as almost all of them are.

Some of them are fact finding tours for the BRF, like the one to the Middle East by William, who isn't exactly a seasoned diplomat either. In a region where brokering a permanent peace eluded politicians like Bill Clinton and Obama, I don't think anyone with knowledge of the area is under any illusions that William is going to do anything much.

He is, IMO, going over there on a charm offensive because the FO under Boris Johnson has decided that the British Govt have been less than even-handed in its relations with Israel in past decades and a few feathers need smoothing.

We don't know why the Sussexes are being sent to Ireland. We may find there was something of substance behind it eventually, we may not. In my view the only trips of any substance undertaken by the BRF in recent years have been Prince Charles's to the Gulf States. He has built up a rapport with many of the rulers there and that has apparently been of great help to Britain in trade deals signed later for armaments by British manufacturers. Apart from that the vast majority of these visits are mainly gloss, IMO.

There are fluffy and half fluff/serious trips. The Irish trip is fluffy. Trying to make Wiiliams trip fluffy won't happen, his detailed schedule is published by the official Royal website, there you will find 75% is very serious because the nature and history of this particular visit and 25% fluff, i.e visiting where Kate took her picture when a kid.
Title: Re: Prince Harry & Meghan Markle - Engagements
Post by: Curryong on June 20, 2018, 04:53:33 PM
I didn't say in my post that the Middle Eastern trip by William was fluffy. What I said was that some trips are in the nature of being fact finding, and that is what William's trip will probably be. Unless you are inferring that William will be returning from the trip with a signed treaty for peace between Israel and the Occupied Territories in his back pocket, lol, something that hasn't been achieved by top international diplomats and politicians in the last fifty years! No serious journal or writer that I have read has suggested any such thing.

You don't know whether the Irish trip will be fluffy or non fluffy. No details of the schedule have been released.
Title: Re: Prince Harry & Meghan Markle - Engagements
Post by: wannable on June 20, 2018, 05:05:26 PM
He will be meeting with kings, presidents, politicians and will be accompanied by UK foreign office staff, plus his secretary and David Manning, his advisor, who happens to be the ex ambassador to USA. A diplomat who lands the highest post in the most powerful country in the world is not to sneeze.

The thing is reading the initial official information of a royal trip, once you do this, one may quite rightly guess the fluffiness or not. KP Irish tweet sounds very much fluffy.

To make myself clear, all royals have done and been there; fluffy trips and not so, half and half be it political diplomatic sits meet and greet picture taking and then a closed door meeting where David has been there with William in the past, charity fundraising money's with friendly or commonwealth and the sort, which constitutes the non fluffy aspect.
Title: Re: Prince Harry & Meghan Markle - Engagements
Post by: Curryong on June 20, 2018, 05:37:22 PM
All royals meet Presidents and Prime Ministers and diplomats etc. Of course the FO is going to send staff, including a high ranking diplomat. They want to influence things in the Middle East.

What I doubt is that William will be sitting there doing most of the talking, broaching most of the subjects for discussion and getting into the nitty gritty of any negotiations, while his entourage just sits there and nods. Beyond pleasantries and fact finding I doubt that very much. As well as everything else such as no diplomatic or FO experience William is as a Royal not suppose to engage in government business or negotiations anyway.

Admit you would have liked it to be the 6th in line to carry out this extremely important and one of the most historic trip rather than the future future King.
Title: Re: Prince Harry & Meghan Markle - Engagements
Post by: Curryong on June 20, 2018, 05:58:58 PM
William was chosen, in my view, because the Queen and Duke are too old now to make such a trip now the FO has changed its views. Charles would probably have been ideal. However, he has too strong a relationship with various Gulf potentates to be considered neutral by the Israelis.

And William won't be my King. Australia will be a republic, within the Commonwealth, along with the other realms, long before William comes to the throne, in probably another twenty to twenty five years. That is if Britain doesn't become a republic before then, which it may do. He might well, if he does get there, be king of only England and Wales, with Scotland and NI broken away. Fine heritage!

I didn't say that I don't read about the Cambridges' engagements at all. I said I don't comment on them more than once in a blue moon (because as a couple/family they don't interest me.) And I do that on every forum I'm on.

I replied to your comment that I 'admitted' (apparently on a previous post) that I didn't read Cambridge links/posts about engagements when in fact I said nothing of the kind.

You misread (probably deliberately) what I said. I said in former posts and have said consistently that I hardly ever comment on the Cambridges because they don't interest me. You apparently misread and twisted that to mean that I never READ any Cambridge posts.

For the last time...

I am on several forums. On each of them I may read or not read stuff about the Cambridges, depending on the content. If I feel like it, usually about their engagements though not exclusively, I may comment on what is there but I do so only once in a blue moon.

Now please stop twisting what I have consistently written in my last posts.

@amabel-There is an interesting discussion happening on the big royal site regarding the timing of the visit. There are British citizens including a Northern Ireland resident there who are questioning the decision made by the FO, Irish Government and KP for the Sussexes to visit the Republic of Ireland in the upcoming weeks, as July 11 is bonfire night in Ulster and this marks the start of marching season in NI for Unionists. (Which I have to say I did find a bit startling when we drove into some NI towns during a visit there last July. I'd  read about it in the past but I foolishly assumed had somehow tapered off in the 21st century after the Ulster Accord.)

Now I do believe that the Sussex visit will be carefully planned, monitored and designed not to cause the slightest controversy, this is an "interesting time of the year" in NI so hopefully this visit won't be exploited by those who seek to cause some disruption.

Putting this here rather than opening yet another thread as there isn't one for just news/press releases of the Sussexes unconnected with engagements.

The Mirror has apologised,  after communications by Meghan's lawyers, for their totally false story about steamy photos of Meghan from Suits etc being used by lawyers for Closer magazine in their appeal against damages re the Cambridge photos. So that Meghan was totally made up. However, other tabloids followed, and I doubt they will follow suit.

It's a form of self-deprecation that is very British, really. As people who have lived there know. And William, under the guise of joking about Harry, has put him down often enough. Or is that not negative as its William.

Several of Harry's engagements aren't announced much before time for security reasons. However we are coming up to the end of the year when the royals finish off their patronages' private meetings/receptions for the year. I think it's intended that Harry gets up to around the 200 engagement mark. Meghan, who's up above the 100 engagements total for the year, added one or two herself this week.

Yes, TLLK, but the online CC has been a disgrace in terms of keeping an up to date tally of engagements for about two years now, if not more. The person you referred to has regularly complained about dates being missed online, sometimes for a week at a time. She now uses two or three sources to check on things. Maybe most of the royals have given up on it.

Because of Harry's service in war zones apparently a decision was made ages ago not to publicise several of his public engagements ahead of time unless it could be avoided. There's also been a threat issued by a group of Neo-Nazis (which came to light recently in a BBC investigation) who regard him as a 'race traitor' due to his marriage. There have been other threats too, such as the white powder incident.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Royal Variety home becomes a patronage. Her patronages/charities are supposed to be announced in the new year, so I'm thinking they'll announce between 4-6 to start with and then the number grow over time. :xmas8:

https://www.worcesternews.co.uk/news/national/17292538.meghan-to-meet-retired-entertainers-at-royal-variety-care-home/

QuoteThe Duchess of Sussex is to pay a festive visit to the Royal Variety Charity?s residential nursing and care home.

Former actress Meghan will meet residents at Brinsworth House which cares for retired artists and entertainers, Kensington Palace said.

The pregnant duchess, known for her role in US legal drama Suits, will join residents at the home in Twickenham on December 18 as they take part in Christmas-themed activities, including arts and crafts and carols around the Christmas tree.

No, neither would I. Perhaps some national theatre companies, drama schools etc as well. It would be a good fit for Meghan and I think she'd enjoy it, though perhaps it might bring back waves of nostalgia for her former life, who knows. I wouldn't be surprised if she is suffering from homesickness of some sort for Canada and 'Suits' and LA and her old life.

The British are kindly and welcoming up to a point, but are often reserved, IMO. There's sometimes a time period before foreigners are fully accepted, if ever, and Meghan's going through that now, I feel. Showbusiness people are different though, there's is a broad church, and she might gain friendships there.

Something related to dramatic arts for kids or associated with mental health 5. Something related to women's education in minority communities in the UK. 6. Something related to welcoming new immigrant/ minority women/girls to the UK and encouraging them to become citizens.

Do you think Meghan will have as many as six to start off with?  Kate didn't I think, but she was part time until quite recently I suppose, and Meghan is a bit of an eager beaver. I can see a few really concentrating on women's issues, girls education, especially in the Commonwealth, and problems within diverse communities in the UK. It will have to be carefully balanced and not too Commonwealth-centric in order to avoid criticism.

I'm putting this here as I don't want to start off yet another thread. There is speculation that Harry will be joining the British marines (of which he is head as Captain General) in Norway for war exercises. I believe international forces gather in Norway every few years for these as the terrain is so suitable. Just Harry's cup of tea! If it's true I bet he's raring to go!

It's just labelled 'secret' in a form of 'tabloidese' because it hasn't been officially announced by KP, IMO. Everything is secret to these rags if people make unannounced visits to hospitals, charities, community kitchens etc, etc. It's especially ridiculous in this situation because, as you pointed out, thousands of troops can hardly be hidden!

I have read of these exercises before many years ago, in connection with Harry and speculation about his taking part in war games in the area. That was when he was in the army. However, this will be his first engagement as Captain General of Marines after taking over from his grandfather, and I think he will want to visit 'his' troops.

The Scandinavian countries, especially Norway, have been becoming rather edgy over the last decade or so about Russian exercises near their borders and their increasing interest in oil and gas in the Arctic regions. There was a big NATO international exercise of military troops in Norway in October 2018, and this will be another. Because of Norway's special terrain these are all splendid opportunities for soldiers to practise exercises in snow and icy conditions.

Yes it is ridiculous that everything from a joint military exercise to a royal having an unannounced visit to one of their patronages is labeled "secret."

Now NATO aligned groups having a joint exercise isn't all that unusual.  However  like you I do find it worrisome that Scandinavian nations are feeling the threat of a military conflict coming from Russia. One of the Danish posters on the big royal forum has mentioned  this concern in the past few years as well.

It wasn't strictly a royal engagement, but on Monday Meghan met up again with the NZ Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern on Monday at KP. The pair probably had tea together. They had met previously on the October tour undertaken by the Sussexes last year and reportedly got on like a house on fire. Ms Ardern is a new mum and accompanied Harry and Meghan to many of their engagements. She was spotted mouthing 'Well done!' at Meghan after M's speech referencing the centenary of female franchise in New Zealand.

It's soft diplomacy. Morocco and Britain have good relations and the country is strategically important as it is quite near Gibraltar, with ferries going between the two countries every day. There's quite a little diaspora of ex pat Gibraltar people (people on the Rock wanted to stay in the EU) who live in Morocco. Boris Johnson held strategic talks in London last year with his Moroccan counterparts.

KP never announced that Harry was attending. Gerts Royals blog has had it as a 'possible' but not confirmed engagement on her Sussex Page for ages. However there's never been any official confirmation. And the Commonwealth Youth Awards should really have known better than to advertise like that. .

Twitter users know how to use hashtags, therefore check if its trending or not, the numbered position also appears.

The gesture was carried out by a MM Fan, her followers retweeted, some were able to donate too, and the six degrees of separation, the followers of the followers.

But as I said, nice gesture, every cent counts, but the aggrandizing of something is not there, quite a small fan group.

Duke of Sussex (extra officially) has a lunch event tomorrow.

The Lord Mayor's Big Curry Lunch - The Soldiers' Charity (https://soldierscharity.org/events/the-lord-mayors-big-curry-lunch/#)

Quote
The Lord Mayor?s Big Curry Lunch
The 12th annual Lord Mayor?s Big Curry Lunch is now sold out! We look forward to welcoming all our guests to the Guildhall on Thursday 4th April.
The Lunch unites the City of London to show their support for members of her Majesty?s Armed Forces and Veterans through the three National Service Charities; ABF The Soldiers? Charity, the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity and the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund.

As we move towards the 12th Lunch, we do so with great excitement and a renewed sense of purpose. For two reasons. Firstly, we hope that the proceeds from the 12th Lunch will take us to ? and beyond ? the figure of ?2 million contributed to serving soldiers, veterans and their families over the life of The Lord Mayor?s Big Curry Lunch. This has had a deep and lasting impact on the lives of thousands of servicemen and women who were affected by service in Afghanistan and Iraq. We thank you for your support.
Secondly, for the next three years, The Lord Mayor?s Big Curry Lunch will link with the Civic and Mayoral theme of employment and employability. As part of our giving we will provide financial support for veterans to take part in a programme designed to help them manage their pain and subsequently find meaningful work. One of the biggest inhibitors to veterans getting into the world of work and sticking at it is pain. The causal factors involved are complex, whether physical or psychological. King Edward VII Hospital?s Centre for Veterans? Health has developed ? and tested ? a six-month long Pain Management Programme specifically for veterans. The Lunch will fund, as part of ABF The Soldiers? Charity grant-giving, up to 18 veterans on this programme in each of the next three years.
Who will be there?
The Lord Mayor?s Big Curry Lunch brings together over 1,300 key decision makers and influential leaders from organisations across the various business sectors of the City of London and beyond, hosted by the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of the City of London and the Sheriffs and their consorts. Many of these individuals are also:
Members of the City of London?s Livery Companies and Ward Clubs
Senior officers, serving soldiers and veterans from the British Army and other services
Members of Parliament, including the Secretary of State for Defence
Each year we welcome a Royal Guest of Honour, who in the past has included HRH The Prince of Wales, HRH The Prince Henry of Wales and HRH The Princess Royal. We will be announcing the 2019 Royal Guest of Honour closer to the time of the Lunch.
Many of the charity?s beneficiaries will also be joining us, along with serving soldiers. We encourage you to introduce yourself to them and to learn about their experiences in the military.

?The Soldiers? Charity is here to provide support to individual soldiers, veterans and their families when in need. Whilst a significant number of those needing our help are veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan, the three Armed Forces Charities provide a lifetime of support for all members of Her Majesty?s Armed Forces. The eldest person we helped last year was a 107-year-old widow with her care home fees and the youngest was a two-year-old child. Thank you for supporting the 2018 Lunch. Please support the 2019 Lunch and help us to provide assistance to those who need it?
? General Sir Mike Jackson GCB CBE DSO DL President, ABF The Soldiers? Charity. Speaking at the Post-Lunch Thank You Party in May 2017
Partners of The Lord Mayor?s Big Curry Lunch
ABF The Soldiers? Charity works in association with the other two national service charities, The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity and the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund.

If official tomorrow, the first to note please open the thread.

Quote
The Duke of Sussex was pictured on the finish line of the London Marathon on Sunday (main) as he made a surprise appearance at the event to cheer on competitors including Sir Mo Farah. Farah failed his bid to win a first London Marathon as he came fifth with a time of 2:05:38 behind Kenyan winner Eliud Kipchoge who finished in 2:02:36. Britain's four-time Olympic champion, wearing a 'Sir Mo' bib, fell back from the leading pack to fifth position as the leaders streaked into the distance at the halfway point. Farah's preparations have been marred by an extraordinary row with former distance star Haile Gebrselassie over an alleged robbery in the hotel owned by the retired Ethiopian. ^^^Interesting quote and might I add that I believe this individual does not realize that nearly every royal who performs duties for their monarch/nation in Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Africa is likely booked with annual events through and even past 2021.
There is typically a national day, opening of Parliament,  memorial/remembrance day, holiday greeting/service/, religious service etc..that requires the attendance of nearly every royal along with his/her annual meetings for their foundations, charities,  and military units.

While I am very glad that Meghan's calendar is already filling up, I am a bit surprised at the comment and must presume that the individual believes this to be somehow "unique."

The Godparents will be kept private.
Title: Re: Prince Harry & Meghan Markle - Engagements

Duke and Duchess of Sussex rule Archie's godparents will remain secret, as they confirm private christening plans (https://www.telegraph.co.uk/royal-family/2019/07/03/duke-duchess-sussex-rule-archies-godparents-will-remain-secret/)

The godparents will be kept private 'according to their wishes'. And 'it is understood that celebrity godparents are wide of the mark. They have chose genuine old friends from both sides.'

So the godparents are private individuals who do not wish to be harassed to death on social media or even by fanatical stalkers who could be malicious. And those individuals certainly wouldn't be Meghan stans. Quite the opposite.

It was probably the same with the members of the medical team who delivered Archie. They were frightened of being named because of the climate on social media.

It's the Sussexes' event and therefore their decision to keep this information very private. IMO this further confirms to me that they intend to keep Archie's upbringing more private that the Cambridges, the Wessexes, Phillips and Tindalls have chosen to do so in recent years.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry share details of Archie's christening - but godparents will be a secret

ByZoe ForseyLifestyle Editor
17:50, 3 JUL 2019UPDATED18:13, 3 JUL 2019

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will not tell fans who they have picked to be their son Archie's godparents.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have released details about the christening, which will take place on Saturday, but have said they are keeping the names secret.

They've said this is "in keeping with their wishes".

They have also announced that they will release official photos from the day at a later point.

The Archbishop of Canterbury will do the christening at the Private Chapel in Windsor Castle, and the couple have asked photographer Chris Allerton to take pictures on their special day.

The news will disappoint many royal fans who were looking forward to seeing snaps of the Sussexes arrive at the service.

A statement, released by Buckingham Palace today, reads: "Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor will be christened in a small private ceremony by the Archbishop of Canterbury in the Private Chapel at Windsor Castle on Saturday 6 July.

"The Duke and Duchess of Sussex look forward to sharing some images taken on the day by photographer Chris Allerton.

"The godparents, in keeping with their wishes, will remain private."

One key member - the Queen - will not be there because of prior commitments, the Sunday Times reports.

British GP could be moved to avoid clash with other sporting crown jewels.  Congratulation to Lewis Hamilton from England, he won.

Quote
Next year's British Grand Prix is set to be moved, avoiding a direct clash with the Wimbledon men's singles final (Kate) and football's (William) Euro 2020 final at Wembley.
PA understands two dates have been mooted by Formula One for the Silverstone race, the final weekend in June and the week following the conclusion of Wimbledon and the Euros.

I think this is a positive news of moving the dates, Prince Harry is the F1 Silverstone, England Patron.  It not only clashes with Wimbledon, but inevitably it was also the same day of the One Off Premier of the Lion King.  (No royal gave the price and trophy)

If successfully moved with all countries/parties involved, next year 2020 we will see Kate in Wimbledon, one week later William at Wembley for the European Cup, one week later Harry at Silverstone.

This is not a patronage and won't be recorded in the CC but...

Lovely and inspiring story in the Telegraph from Bryony Gordon about Meghan, her connection with Luminary Bakery, and one of  the women who work there.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/royal-fa...vulnerability/

Quote:
In a small, sparse room at the back of a bakery on the urban streets of Camden, north London, the Duchess of Sussex is comforting a crying woman.

Tanya?s tears fall over the scars that will remain on her cheeks for the rest of her life; stark reminders of the violent ex partner who is now serving a lengthy prison sentence after he stabbed her repeatedly.

Tanya is explaining what this, the bakery that doubles as a social enterprise, has done for her since that terrible day back in 2016. By a cruel twist of fate it was International Women?s Day when her attacker lay in wait for her outside the doors of the London university she was studying at.

Tanya had been a victim of domestic violence for a decade. ?Society judges women for staying in abusive relationships,? she says to me and the Duchess. ?But I don?t ever feel judged here. I feel I can be free. I feel I can be myself.?

Here is the Luminary Bakery, a small, grass roots organisation that helps to empower disadvantaged women through training and employment opportunities.

Completely relaxed and enjoying himself, as usual with those he met. Cute that there was a photo of Archie in a onesie sent on IG. Good too, that Harry met the Crown Prince and Prince Albert (once again in Albert's case as Harry has already met Charlene and the Prince.) England gave everything in that match but it was not to be. Still, SA is a fellow Commonwealth country, so there's that!

Good to see Harry catching up with Gareth again and also meeting the other rugby players at the club to highlight this important cause.

Re the six weeks leave. There was never really any official announcement about the length of the six weeks of family time leave. And certainly nothing was ever mentioned about the little family going to LA for Thanksgiving (or for the whole six weeks according to some Twitter gossip.) They could just as easily spend most of it at the Cottage or with friends or relatives in Britain. They might visit the Spencer side of the family.

Re: Questions about the Sussexes taking a break from Royal Duties for a few weeks.

Like most things, the Palace hasn?t given details to the press. No official word on when the Sussexes last engagement will be or how long exactly their break will be.
Reporters can only report on the information they are given or what they can find.
Poor/lack of communication between the Palace & Royal Reporters leads to errors.
(Especially when reporters find something out from a source and the Palace is unwilling to confirm or clarify.)

I wonder if some of the private visits that were seeing this week were ones that were originally scheduled for Nov. and Dec. 2019 and then were quietly postponed when it was announced that the couple would be taking a six week break. TBH I would have found it very unusual that the couple would have not had to do some rescheduling.

That's a good theory.

Have you read the Sussex fan complaints in SM about the Queen's decision to have WK at the UK/Africa investment, all the Commonwealth African nation presidents and senior leaders will be at BP with Cambridge's?  I believe this event WAS for the Sussex, but they blew it with the African Interview, which overshadowed completely the UK Gov/Foreign Office purpose.
