QuoteKing of Thailand requests changes to draft constitution

Still in its drafting stage, King Maha Vajiralongkorn (Rama X) has reportedly requested that the new Thai constitution be adjusted in certain key areas.

The former constitution that was in place from 2007 to 2014 was suspended by the National Council for Peace and Order, the military junta that now currently controls the Thai government, upon their seizure of power. A new constitution is currently being drafted to replace it, and the people were offered a very tightly controlled referendum to authorise further changes last year. Criticism of the draft constitution and monitoring of the referendum were banned, and people campaigning against the constitution or indicating they'd vote against it were arrested.

The new constitution has faced much criticism for its reduction of Thai democracy and the sweeping powers it gives the military.

QuoteAnother Royal executed, this time in Kuwait

On Wednesday, Kuwait held a mass execution. Seven people were hanged including a Royal Prince. This is the first execution to include a Royal since October of last year when Saudi Arabia executed a member of the Saudi Royal Family convicted of murder.

This is the first execution in the oil emirate in several years. Kuwait's ruler, Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Sabah, authorised the executions of the six convicted of murder and the one person who was tried and convicted of kidnapping, rape, and theft. The hangings of a Bangladeshi, a Filipina, an Ethiopian, two Kuwaitis and two Egyptians were carried out in the morning in the country's central prison.

The Royal in question was Faisal Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who killed his nephew Basil Al-Sabah seven years ago. Oil emirates rarely hold executions, but they do occur, according to The Associated Press. Amnesty International opposes executions. In a statement released by the organisation, Amnesty official Samah Hadid said: "The mass execution "is a shocking and deeply regrettable step backward for Kuwait. By choosing to resume executions now, the Kuwaiti authorities have displayed a wanton disregard for the right to life and signalled a willingness to weaken human rights standards."

I agree with Princess Haya. Robots can be used to help doctors in health care, but there has to be a balance between the humans and robots. It is wonderful to have the robots get the proper medical supplies the doctors  need and assist with surgeries. With the advancing technology, I believe it is important to not allow robots to do all the tasks that humans are suppose to do. They can easily make mistakes and that is why humans need to watch them.

QuotePrincess Haya opens new cancer centre in Dubai

The Comprehensive Cancer Centre (CCC), Dubai's newest cancer clinic, was opened yesterday by Her Royal Highness Princess Haya bint Al Hussein, accompanied by senior health officials. Princess Haya was acting on behalf of her husband, Sheikh Muhammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Emir of Dubai, and Prime Minister and Vice President of the United Arab Emirates.

The CCC forms Dubai's most advanced medical centre for the treatment of cancer and was built in collaboration with Mediclinic Middle East's sister clinic in Switzerland. Now that it's open and operational, it is able to offer patients full access to some of the most experienced practitioners in oncology, as well as a full suite full of the latest and most up to date facilities and equipment for treating cancer. This will allow citizens of the UAE to benefit from cancer-related healthcare without having to travel overseas, which makes it more accessible to broader swathes of the population.
