QuoteHuge crowds have welcomed the arrival of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge at Sydney's Royal Easter Show, on the third day of an Australian tour.

Prince William and Catherine will officially open a new pavilion at the showground in Homebush and meet with a young fashion designer who last year won a competition to design a dress for the Duchess, or Kate as she is popularly known.

It is also likely the Royal couple will watch the sheep shearing and wool handling display, and meet the president of the Royal Agricultural Society of New South Wales.

Today the Duchess is wearing a white dress created by Australian designers Nicky and Simone Zimmermann.

Among those hoping to catch a glimpse of the couple is Caroline Flynn from Como in Sydney's south, who says she is a renewed royalist.

"Well, I just adore Kate, so I'm coming out to see her and William, and maybe not baby George today, but I've given up the horses for this so good choice today," she said.

QuoteThe Duchess of Cambridge picked a white lace dress by Australian designer Zimmermann for her visit to the Royal Easter Show with husband Prince William on Good Friday in Sydney, Australia as their Royal tour continued Down Under.

The couple experienced a taste of quintessential Australia at the event today - from sheep shearing to 'chook' washing.

Kate and William were visiting the Show at Sydney's Olympic Park, one of the highlights of the country's social calendar.

More than 150,000 people visit the event, founded in 1823 by the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW (RAS), to celebrate Australian culture.

Each year country and city join together to enjoy agricultural competitions, animal experiences, entertainment, carnival fun and shopping.

The couple arrived to a rousing welcome, Kate wearing a 'Roamer' day dress by Australian designer Zimmermann, which has been previously worn by actress Naomi Watts

Good point about there being large crowds for these events regardless of any royal being there.

You may think you're cool, but do you have a smiley named after you?

I wonder why some of their events have limited media access?  I would think that on a royal tour that every event would be public.

PrincessOfPeace

The only times I can recall limited media access is when potentially sensitive subjects may be discussed or for privacy concerns.

Not everyone at a hospice or homeless shelter or addiction centre is comfortable around press and media.

TLLK

^^^I agree that the hospitals/hospices might want to limit the number of press at their sites. Having the Cambridges at the Easter show would give the press many opportunities to photograph the couple.

robynrose

There will be a story on the visit  to the hospice She is suppose to be giving a speech . Get ready for more than 1 story Also plenty from the beech visit  Plenty more. They can not have hundred of reporters and photog at hospice .

QuoteThousands Welcome Royal Couple to Manly  (Video of Speech)

The welcome and the sun were warm when the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge stepped onto the sands of Sydney's Manly beach.  Prime Minister Tony Abbott - in a jacket not Speedos - was on hand to welcome the royal couple to the iconic beach in his electorate.
But it was the thousands who crowded around the beach who seemed the most excited.

Prince William and Kate will watch a surf lifesaving display - a very Australian event.  But the royal couple aren't getting the sand between their toes - they've kept their shoes on.

Happy memories were also created at Manly's Bear Cottage with a visit by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to the children's hospice on Friday.

The visit to the palliative care hospicein Manly is of special importance to the duchess, who is the royal patron of East Anglia's Children's Hospices in the UK and visited Rainbow Place, a similar facility in New Zealand.

QuoteDying Baby Moves Kate and William to Tears: Royal Couple Meet Little [Child] the Same Age as George at Sydney children's Hospice  (Video)

An emotional Duchess of Cambridge today spent more than an hour with seriously ill children and their families at a hospice in Sydney.

Accompanied by her husband William, Kate played with some of the patients and made a speech paying tribute to the work of the staff at Bear Cottage, in the beach suburb of Manly. As she left, she told some of the nurses that she was 'ready for a big sob'.

Afterwards, the parents of nine sick children staying at the cottage over Easter said they were bowled over by the compassion expressed by both the Duke and Duchess.

So keen were the royals to mingle with families that the visit, which included a visit to the centre's play room, outdoor garden and roof terrace, went almost 30 minutes overtime.

Addressing parents, staff and kids, the duchess said it was 'wonderful to be here today'.

QuoteAustralia Royal Visit: Day Eleven

The stunning views from one of Australia's most visited beauty spots left The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge declaring they will return some day.

His Royal Highness described the breathtaking Three Sisters viewing point across the Blue Mountains as "a great place for a picnic" while The Duchess discussed bush walking and said they would come back.

The Duke and Duchess spent the day touring the Blue Mountains region close to Sydney that suffered devastating bush fires last October and met families whose homes were burnt to the ground.

Their Royal Highnesses arrived at Echo Point, Katoomba, to see the famous Three Sisters rock formation and were greeted by around 3,000 well-wishers.

The Duke and Duchess  were welcomed by cheers from the crowds and walked down to a platform to see the majestic views across the Blue Mountain range.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge finish a day spent visiting a hospice and Easter show with a trip to Sydney's Manly Beach.

QuoteThe Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have taken to the beaches of Sydney - but kept their shoes on.

Accompanied by Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott, William and Kate watched a surf life-saving demonstration and met with some of the lifeguards taking part.

The Duchess seemed at ease on the sand despite wearing wedges as she started a race between eight youngsters.

At the end the royal couple was presented with a surfboard, but there would be no riding the royal wave.

Earlier the Duchess delivered her first and only speech during this tour as she and the Duke visited the Bear Cottage children's hospice, which is forging links with the East Anglia's Children's Hospices (EACH), a UK charity of which she is patron.

From Clarence House's Storify account:

QuoteDay Twelve: The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in Sydney

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge spent Good Friday in Sydney today, where they visited the Royal Easter Show meeting farmers and members of the public as they toured the agricultural show.

The show has been running since 1823 and has a number of Royal visitors in the past including Queen Victoria, The Prince of Wales and The Duke of Edinburgh.

The Duke and Duchess then went on to the Bear Cottage children's hospice, one of the only hospices for children in the country.

QuoteTomorrow (Saturday) the duke and duchess are off to the land named after Queen Victoria, the baby future king's great-great-great-great-great-great grandmother. There they'll be visiting the RAAF base in Amberley - Australia's largest operational air base. The couple will inspect the F/A-18F Super Hornet, plant a tree in the memorial garden and meet RAAF personnel and their families. Later they'll head to Brisbane for a civic reception to be hosted by Premier Campbell Newman and Governor Penelope Wensley.

Expect plenty more enthusiastic crowds, sunshine and flowers. Don't expect to see baby George though!

QuoteThe Duke and Duchess of Cambridge admitted they had difficulty holding back tears today when they met a dying baby the same age as Prince George.
The couple struggled to keep their composure when they met nine-month-old Max McIntyre at the Bear Cottage Hospice in Manly, Sydney.
Born a happy, healthy baby, just six weeks ago he contracted bacterial meningitis and was given days to live.

QuoteThe Duchess of Cambridge has got her own back for her husband's jibes about her dress sense - by suggesting he should wear a toupee.
The Duchess could not resist poking fun at him over his rapidly thinning hair when the royal couple visited the prestigious Sydney Royal Easter Show.
As they toured displays of produce, exhibitor Lyn Crejan, 67, showed them a tuft of alpaca wool which was a similar shade of brown to the Duke's hair.

Wish we could see more of Prince George on this tour but I can understand Kate and William wanting to keep him away from the media and public spotlight at such a young age.

^^^ Probably at least one more time. before the tour ends. It must be tiring for him though.

QuoteA map of the royals' planned walk through South Bank, with the route marked in blue and a large viewing screen in dark blue. There will be no public access in the red area.

The best spot for royal watchers to catch a glimpse of the The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge when they visit Brisbane on Saturday will be at South Bank.

But the opportunity to rub shoulders with the royal couple, or snap a selfie will be limited because the pair is scheduled for just a very short stroll along Russell Street to the Cultural Forecourt, where the Wheel of Brisbane stands.

Their walk will begin at 2.50pm on Grey Street, outside the ABC studios.
