Had a quick browse through this thread and didn't see any info from Canada, but sorry if there's any repetition here...
I can report that here in Canuck Land our new government has proven itself to be quite pro-monarchy. The Queen's rep, the beautiful Michaelle Jean, read the Throne Speech a couple of weeks ago, opening with good wishes to HM for her 80th birthday, and acknowledging herself as the representative of the Queen of Canada - something that might not seem such a big deal, but after our last Governor General, Adrienne Clarkson, who seemed to think herself as Queen of Canada, its a refreshing change back to normal. Then, in his response, our PM opened his first speech in the House of Commons as Prime Minister, with a thanks and acknowledgement to the Queen, refering to her as our Head of State - again, something subverted by the previous two governments.
Anyway, besides all the political stuff, as I'm an officer of the Monarchist League of Canada, I've had inside information from the Prime Minister's office that reveals they are planning a few events for the Queen's birthday - I know so far that the PM will send personal birthday greetings to the Queen, and make an official statement this Friday, and there will be a larger, more ceremonial event in Ottawa on the Queen's official birthday in Canada - May 24th. Both the PM and the GG's websites also have prominent links for Canadians to forward birthday wishes to the Queen (http://www.gg.ca/menu_e.asp and http://www.pm.gc.ca/eng/default.asp).
The League has also received requests for assistance with events being planned by towns and communities all across the country.
Our Governor General also was recently in the far north to visit the territory of Nunavut, and while there donated 80 books, written in French, English and Inuktitut, in honour of Elizabeth II's birthday (at the end of her speech here: http://www.gg.ca/media/doc.asp?lang=e&DocID=4728).
As well, Canada Post has issued a special stamp for the Queen's birthday (http://www.canadapost.ca/corporate/about/newsroom/pr/archive-e.asp?prid=1138).
So, lots of stuff going on here, and we're not even near to HM's official birthday yet - when the weather's much better, and the celebrations will really start!
