QuoteIt's billed as a working visit which includes stops in Ontario and the Arctic.

The Queen's youngest son and his wife have visited Canada many times, but this will be their first trip to the North.

The tour includes stops in the Ontario cities of Trenton, Toronto, Hamilton, St. Catharines and Midland, as well as a visit to Iqaluit.

Iqaluit should be interesting.  Hope they see more of it than I did.  Fog like pea soup, bumping into buildings.

Midland should also be interesting. They are visiting Sainte-Marie-au-pays-des-Hurons which is a neat historical spot

Royals kick off Canadian tour with stop in Ottawa
Quote
The Queen's youngest son and his wife will arrive in Ottawa Tuesday on their first leg of a weeklong working visit to Canada.

Prince Edward and Sophie — known as the Earl and Countess of Wessex — may not be the best-known royals or high up in the line for the throne, but the single best way to promote the Crown in Canada is to have members of the royal family visit here, said Robert Finch, the dominion chairman of the Monarchist League of Canada.

"People get to see members of the royal family in a Canadian setting. That's a very powerful message that comes across and it reinforces those great ties and bonds between the country and the members of the royal family," Finch said.

I'm glad to see that they are expanding their destinations and including Midland Ontario. My sister-in-law and family live there and she is a devout royalist.
This couple are certainly a favourite of ours and its always wonderful to know they visit. I wonder if they will ever bring their children. That would be great!
I'll walk up the hill to Sir Brock's monument to see Sophie...I'm rather excited, as I will have my visiting cousin from Scotland with me.

Video: Countess of Wessex visits the Canadian War Museum
Quote
Her Royal Highness, The Countess of Wessex, visited the Canadian War Museum on Wednesday, September 12, 2012 to view, among other things, the "1812" exhibit and to visit with veterans in the LeBreton Gallery which houses a collection of tanks. Andrea McCaffrey presented the Countess with a photo of a cake she had been commissioned to make for the Monarchist League of Canada as part of their Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

Prince Edward and wife Sophie arrive in Iqaluit - Yahoo! News Canada

QuotePrince Edward, Earl of Wessex, and his wife Sophie, Countess of Wessex, arrived in Iqaluit Wednesday night. It's the first royal visit to Iqaluit in 10 years.

Nunavut Premier Eva Aariak said it's another opportunity to teach visitors about the territory and people who live there.

"I'm always talking about, in my travels outside of Nunavut, to inform the people about who we are, where we come from, what we are all about and about our vibrant, wonderful new territory," she said. "I am so very glad they will be able to see it firsthand."

Aariak said Nunavut was the royals' first choice of places to go when they were planning their visit to Canada.

The War Museum is a great place, the tank display is amazing.

I hope they enjoy Iqaluit, it is interesting.  But for a truly beautiful spot they should head an hour north to Pangnirtung. Not only the centre for Nunuvut Tapestry art and print art, it has some of the most outstanding scenery in the North.

St Jude's Anglican Church is built in the shape of an igloo.  It is rather unique.  It was badly damaged a few years back in a fire, but it has been restored.

Sounds wonderful, Kate. It would be great if they included Louise and Jas when they are a bit older. Very educational for the children as well. I can see W & K doing that as his mother once did. Edward might be a bit too traditional and he and Sophie have expressed a desire to keep their children under wraps, as it were but have at least seen them out and about quite a lot more as they grow up, like the recent Olympics and Paralympics.

Wouldn't mind meeting Sophie myself. Congrats to you and your cousin and have lots of fun and a yummy proper high tea afterwards to celebrate !!

Hope you get some pics!! Thanks to Macrobug for all the additional info about the area, sounds lovely.

Diamond Jubilee: Sophie Wessex pays sartorial tribute to her Canadian hosts - hellomagazine.com
Quote
With their nephew, William, and his wife wowing crowds on the other side of the world, the Earl and Countess of Wessex touched down in Canada this week.

And although their visit may be of a more low-key nature than that of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, it comes off the back of a whirlwind summer for Sophie and Edward.

Hot on the heels of their appearance at the Paralympic Ball, as well as their previous Jubilee tours to Gibraltar and the West Indies, the royal couple are on a seven-day tour of the country they know very well.
