QuoteDuring the day, King Philippe will receive coronavirus heroes who have helped and supported others in a special way during the coronavirus crisis. The King, Queen, their four children as well as Princess Astrid, Prince Lorenz and Prince Laurent will attend a solemn ceremony to pay tribute to the heroes of the COVID-19 crisis and to remember the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II. The traditional military parade and the fireworks display are cancelled. The various displays and activities around Brussels will not take place either. Instead, people can enjoy concerts of various Belgian artists on television throughout the day.

In the evening, the King, Queen, Princess Elisabeth, Prince Gabri?l, Prince Emmanuel and Princess El?onore will visit two residential care centres, one in Flanders and one in Wallonia. The residential care centres have been hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic and this way, the Royal Family wants to show their support.
How the Belgian royals will celebrate National Day in 2020 ? Royal Central

QuoteNational Day 2020

Every year, around 100,000 people head to the capital to take part in the celebrations. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, celebrations have to be organised very differently this year. The police are asking people not to come to Brussels to celebrate but to follow the festivities on the television. During the entire day, special programmes are planned to be broadcast.

In the morning, the King, Queen, Princess Elisabeth, Prince Gabri?l, Prince Emmanuel and Princess El?onore will attend the Te Deum mass at the Cathedral. The number of guests will be limited and Their Majesties will not greet well-wishers after the mass. At the request of the King and Queen, three minutes of silence will be observed followed by three minutes of church bells ringing. This way, the coronavirus victims will be remembered. After the Te Deum, the King will head to the BOZAR to see the artworks of the Belgian-Moroccan calligrapher, Dema One, and of the youth that have worked with him.

While the parades and concerts will not take place, the traditional Te Deum (Thanksgiving) Mass will be celebrated with the King, Queen, Duchess of Brabant and her siblings in attendance. The focus will be remembering the victims of the pandemic and thanking those on the frontlines for their support.

Looking at the picture of the Belgian Royals, it is hard to believe that Prince Gabriel is taller than King Philippe.

Macrobug67

The queen is tall and sons of tall women often are quite tall.  Elizabeth is lovely.  I hope we get to see photos of her in training this fall.

TLLK

I believe that in the future, Europe will see a generation of kings and queens who are taller than average especially with the Belgian, Dutch, and Danish royal families.  :Jen:

Macrobug67

Kate and Wills kids are likely going to be tall also.

*sideeye in jealousy as I stretch to hit 5?4?*  <_<

TLLK

 As the 5'6" mother and 5'11" father of a daughter who is 5'9" and a son who is 6'3", I can't wait to see how this generation's parents are going to react when Prince/Princess pass them up.

The neighbors north of Belgium also have very tall children with W-A and Maxima's daughter Amaila seems to have already passed her very tall mother and is gaining on her father.

@Macrobug67 - We'll chip in to get you either a step stool or one of those telescope boxes that you see at royal weddings.

Macrobug67

:friends:  You are a darling.  But I have asking perfect strangers to fetch down things from top shelves in stores down to a fine art.  It?s that or carry around a collapsible step ladder.

Actually, most of the next generation are tall or have potential.  Only Luxembourg, Sweden and Denmark are less than tall.

TLLK

I'm going to bedazzle a grabber for you so you can reach the top shelves in the hallway where we now store tiaras. Due to COVID 19 regulations, we can't keep the taller heirs/spares around to grab items for us anymore.

From looking at the Belgians, Dutch, Norwegian, Danish families we could have used a few of them to help with redecorating.

Oooooh...sparkly things!  I want my old tiara back. Any idea where it got put?

Can we talk about Elizabeth?s developing fashion sense?  The kid has got style

More serious, this appears to be a good way to celebrate the 75 anniversary of the end of WW2 and to remember the victims of COVID19 and frontline workers.  Canada Day was celebrated this year differently - broadcasts etc.  We can still come together, even if on line and in spirit

TLLK

@Macrobug67 - Errr....well your tiara might have gone through a slight reworking while you were away.  :P I'm not sure if you'd recognize it.

Elizabeth has been a pleasure to watch through the years and she carries herself with great poise.  She's the eldest of this generation of European heirs born in the 2000's (Amalia, Christian, Ingrid-Alexandra, Leonor, Estelle, George, Jacques,  and now little Charles) soon she'll be off for her military training.

Prince Jacques is the hereditary prince in Monaco.  :)

No idea on his height yet.

Macrobug67

Pfft....of course.   I completely forgot about Monaco.  Likely those kids will be tall.  Mama is tall

Thank you for sharing @PrincessOfPeace. The royal back to school photos should be starting soon for the other royal houses as well even though some might be starting online this term. I was surprised that she wasn't attending Sint-Jan but since she resides outside of the intake area, I can see why she had to choose another school.  The Belgian royal have often been criticized for having poor Flemish speaking skill in the past, so her parents have been very determined that all of their children have a solid foundation in that language. All have attended Flemish speaking schools.

QuotePrincess Eleonore did want to continue her studies at Sint-Jan Berchmanscollege, having completed her primary school education there, according to local media.

However, she had to accept her second choice of Heilig-Hartcollege because she doesn't have an older sibling at Sint-Jan Berchmanscollege and lives outside the catchment area.

Heilig-Hartcollege is a Dutch language catholic secondary school in the Brussels region.
