QuoteTHE wedding dress worn by Lady Diana Spencer at her wedding to Prince Charles is to be given to their sons.

The gown has been in the possession of her brother, Earl Spencer, since her death in 1997, and has been at the centre of a worldwide exhibition called Diana: A Celebration.

According to the earl, her will had stated that her belongings were to be "looked after" by him until both of her sons turned 30. Prince Harry will be 30 on September 15.

The prince is also set to receive his share of his mother's fortune.

For the past five years the prince has been able to access only the interest, unlike his brother, the Duke of Cambridge, who is thought to have received as much as $18 million on his 30th birthday. Prince Harry's share could be even higher given the accumulated interest. The prince is paid a $70,000 salary by the Army and has access to about $3.5 million left to him by his great grandmother, Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother.

QuotePRINCESS Diana's iconic wedding dress will be returned to her sons William and Harry after a global tour.

In keeping with a request in her will, the treasured family heirloom – made up of thousands of pearls, layers of silk and a 25ft train – will be transferred into the princes' possession along with other cherished personal items.

There are calls for the dress to be put on permanent display at Kensington Palace after having been looked after by her brother Earl Spencer until both her sons are 30. Prince Harry will turn 30 on September 15.

The dress has been the centrepiece of a lucrative exhibition, which has raised money for the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund.

Most recently it was shown at the Cincinnati Museum Center in the United States for six months. Visitors were charged £15 to see it, along with 28 other dresses and other personal effects.

It is claimed the princes have been unhappy about the "commercialisation" surrounding Diana's death.

Alan Berry, of the Diana Appreciation Society, said: "We think it a good suggestion the dress be put on display along with other artefacts in Kensington Palace.

^^I wonder whether Diana's wishes about her furniture, clothing, personal property etc really was for it all to be 'looked after' by her brother, or whether it was all circumvented in the way her gifts to her godchildren were by her birth family. It seems a very odd arrangement.

^^ Do you mean her wishes in her will, or wishes that she verbally communicated to her family?  If you mean her will, I posted a link to it a few days ago in one of these threads.

QuoteExactly 17 years after Princess Diana's death, her wedding dress has been handed over to her two sons, William and Harry.

In accordance with Diana's will, her brother, Earl Spencer, "looked after" the lavish bridal gown until Harry turned 30, which he does on September 15.

The gown, designed by David and Elizabeth Emanuel for Diana's marriage to Prince Charles in 1981, is made of thousands of pearls, silk layers and a 25ft-train.

For two months every year since, it has been exhibited at Althorp, the Spencer family estate in Northamptonshire, as part of an exhibition called 'Diana: A Celebration'. It was also displayed around the world, most recently at the Cincinnati Museum Center in the USA, alongside a wealth of Diana's other personal effects.

Earl Spencer said last year that other items would also be handed over to William and Harry, in accordance with their mother's will.

3) Other priceless family jewels.

William and Harry stand to make a good haul. Especially the two tiaras.

tiaras

That's weird lol and Diana was beautiful but some of those 80s and 90s disasters are just   I think the jewellery will be passed equally on to both sons .

I think William will get the lion's share of gems and jewellery simple because he is married and the heir. Harry may not marry for years.

I think it's unlikely they'll divide up all of these things now.  No reason to do so.  If there is a particular piece of jewelry or tiara that will would like to give Kate or to let her wear on some occasions, that's one thing.  But otherwise I think it's likely all of that will sit in a vault somewhere and when Harry marries he will also pick some of it out to give or loan to his wife.

You think she is more William's mother because he is married and the heir..? Really?

So sad tho .  :notamused: this is how people judge william and harry as people , one is the heir so he is nice kind and hard working and the other isnt therefore he is only a figure head for his charities , he is expendable ...

I bet if harry was heir they would be bending over backwards trying to defend him . So fickle .

Those were private possessions , they will be distributed equally . Like the 10 million inheritance money .

I bet you Willy wil make Kate wear it   :hide: ...
Which tiaras are going to the brothers? I was under the impression that the family has only two (the well-known one and a second IMO UGLY one) and they're Spencer property. Wouldn't the Earl save them for his current wife then to be handed down?

I wonder if Diana had purchased them from her brother at some point before her death or they did a trade for them ie: art work for the jewelry?

If the brothers inherit them then IMHO it would be wise to place them in a sort of shared collection that Kate, Harry's future wife and any possible daughters could wear in the future.

Curryong

I believe the tiaras are Spencer family heirlooms and no doubt Earl Spencer's daughters will wear them on their wedding day and his elder son will inherit them for his family.

It's not as if the BRF have hardly any tiaras to go round! There are at least a half a dozen that I know of, and Kate and Harry's wife will be able to borrow those when a state occasion comes up.
