QuoteOn Saturday, Queen Sofia of Spain attended a very special concert in Toledo in central Spain. She saw a performance of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Requiem, directed by British conductor Ivor Bolton.

The concert was held to celebrate the 400th anniversary of artist El Greco's death.

El Greco wasn't the artist's real name, as it means "the Greek" in Spanish. His real name was Domenikos Theotokopoulos, and he was, yes, Greek — born on the island of Crete, to be precise. From Greece he moved to Italy and lived for years in both Venice and Rome, before settling down in Toledo in Spain in 1577. Here he worked throughout his life until he died in 1614.

Great to see HM out again. Seems fitting that the former Greek princess is the official SRF representative for an event about El Greco.
