Princess of Asturias Awards ceremony held in Spanish city of Oviedo

The annual ceremony to present the prestigious Princess of Asturias Awards was held on Friday in the city of Oviedo, northern Spain.

The awards are given every year in eight different fields: Arts, Communication and Humanities, Social Sciences, Technical and Scientific Research, Sport, Literature, International Cooperation and Concord.

The award winners each received a certificate, a statue by artist Joan Miro and a cash prize of 50,000 euros (55,000 US dollars) in the ceremony hosted by the King and Queen of Spain and their eldest daughter Leonor, the Princess of Asturias.

Queen Letizia stuns in red floral dress day after showcasing extremely thin figure in LBD

Queen Letizia showed that she can master day and night in her royal style, attending The Princess of Asturias Awards in a conservative dress the day after she bared skin for the XXV Musical Week closing concert with husband King Felipe VI.

The 44-year-old monarch was the centre of attention during today's event (21 October) in, Oviedo where she and Felipe met esteemed laureates including Mexican politician Patricia Espinosa, US writer Richard Ford and photojournalist James Nachtwey, among others.

Letizia oozed elegance upon arrival at the Reconquista Hotel in the northern Spanish city, rocking a vibrant white dress adorned with a red contemporary floral print. It featured black piping to give the long-sleeved dress a more structured feel, and highlight her super svelte waist with its cinched-in cut. The mother-of-two accessorised with a pair of suede red heels and wore a sparkly pair of gemstone earrings to complete the look.

It might have been a cloudy day but Queen Letizia did not let the weather dampen her style.

The Spanish royal looked radiant in a vibrant fuchsia coat as she and husband King Felipe VI greeted villagers in the northern Asturian region.

Braving the mountain mist, the couple met with artisans in Los Oscos, a rural area with a population of just 1,300.

King Felipe and Queen Letizia attend Princess of Asturias Awards

King Felipe and Queen Letizia have been in Oviedo, Spain, for the previous two days to participate in events for the Princess of Asturias Foundation, on behalf of their soon to be 11-year-old daughter, Leonor, Princess of Asturias. Leonor will celebrate her birthday on 31 October.

On their first day in Oviedo, the King and Queen attended the XXV Concert Princess of Asturias Awards. The 25th annual concert boasted a performance by the Symphony Orchestra of the Principality of Asturias and the Choir of the Princess of Asturias Foundation of the Symphony No. 9 in D minor, Op. 125 "Choral" by Ludwig van Beethoven.

Their Majesties then attended a dinner held in their honour at the Market Square Trascorrales, which was hosted by the president of the foundation. The award winners were also in attendance.
