A chocolatey royal Christmas in Spain

We've already seen the Spanish royals in a waxy element, but how about a lifesize model of King Felipe made of pure chocolate? That's yummy in more than on way.

A local patisserie in the town of Rute in Andalucia, Spain, called 'Galleros Artesanos' has done exactly that – to Felipe, Letizia, Sofia and Juan Carlos. Five years ago, the patisserie decided to make a lifesize copy of the King and Queen, Juan Carlos and Sofia at the time. Then came Felipe and Letizia, Prince and Princess at the time. Last year, in 2013, the four were done. So this year, as both kings and queens were ready made in chocolate, the chocolate artists decided to do a copy of Pope Francis in white chocolate.

All five of them are now on display at Galleros Artesanos together with the patisserie's traditional Christmas exhibition of chocolaty Christmas scenes as for example a nativity play fully made of chocolate and Spanish town replicas in chocolate.

Spanish Baker Unveils Life-Size Chocolate Sculptures of King Felipe and Queen Letizia (and There's a Tribute to the Pope too)

They are no strangers to the official portrait or, indeed, the wax figurine, but now Spain's King Felipe and Queen Letizia have been immortalised in another substance entirely - chocolate.

The life-size statues of the Spanish royals are the work of Córdoba bakery, Galleros Artesanos, and join a group that also includes Pope Francis and former Spanish king, Juan-Carlos.

Making the enormous sculptures required a truly king-sized amount of chocolate - 340kg for Felipe and 320kg for Letizia.
