Queen Rania announces launch of new learning platform for Arab schoolchildren ? Royal Central

QuoteAccording to Queen Rania?s press office, ?The new school-learners Edraak platform will offer free online open educational resources, generating much-needed Arabic digital educational content that meets the learning needs of Arab students from kindergarten to grade 12 (K-12) and their educators.

?The platform was created in answer to rampant unrest across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), where according to UNICEF more than 15 million children are out of school as a result of armed conflicts and displacement.?

King Abdullah directs government to reopen schools ? Royal Central

On 2 March 2020, the Ministry of Health confirmed the first case in Jordan. As of 9 January 2021, 305.000 Jordanians have been infected with COVID-19 of whom 3.989 have died.

During the meeting, His Majesty said compliance with public safety measures must continue to maintain improvement in the epidemiological situation and facilitate the reopening of various sectors. Interesting and it's good to see that Abdullah seems to still have a good relationship with his uncle Hassan. For years the late King Hussein had designated his brother Hassan as Crown Prince when his son Abdullah was too young to have taken on the role of CP. Prior to his death, Hussein then removed Hassan as CP and reinstated Abdullah. Hassan and his wife were often on soft diplomacy trips for Hussein and later Abdullah.

King Abdullah opens new military University College ? Royal Central

QuoteHis Majesty King Abdullah of Jordan opened on the new RJAF Technical University College for Aviation Sciences. The building will be a part of the King Hussein Air College. The Jordanian monarch is the Supreme Commander of the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army.

King Abdullah was received by Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Maj. Gen. Yousef Huneiti and the RJAF commander. Following a briefing on the college, King Abdullah congratulated the top graduates of the college?s air traffic control and navigation program. His Majesty also inaugurated a renewable energy project at the King Hussein Air College, which is one of the biggest public sector energy projects in the Kingdom, supplying the power grid with a total of 22,000 gigawatts annually.

King Hussein Air College began admitting students in 2015 and awards bachelor?s degrees in the fields of aviation, air traffic control and navigation. The college will launch additional specialisations this year in aircraft maintenance technology, aviation safety, and aviation management to meet local and regional market demand. King Hussein Air College is located at the King Hussein Air Base, 3 kilometres north of the city of Mafraq, north in Jordan, close to the Syrian border.

It is expected that the Jordanian royal family will now gradually step up their activities, as the vaccination process for Covid-19 is relatively fast in the country. Just a few weeks ago, the King ordered the reopening of the country?s schools and Jordan will now gradually reopen the community.

Queen Rania: ?We are all in a race against a pandemic, not against each other? ? Royal Central

QuoteOn Saturday, Queen Rania of Jordan spoke about the COVID-19 pandemic and the vaccine at the virtual Warwick Economics Summit. The Queen called on equality in distributing vaccines for the coronavirus during her talk with CNN news anchor Becky Anderson.

The Queen said: ?We are all in a race against a pandemic, not against each other.? She meant that if one country is unable to recover from the pandemic, it will impact the world as a whole. Wealthy countries have been able to order enough vaccines to vaccinate double their populations, but underdeveloped countries are struggling to be able to vaccinate just a small portion of their population. Jordan is the only country to distribute vaccines to refugees.

She called on those countries with a surplus of vaccines to donate them to poorer nations: ?I see no reason why those who have excess supply can?t donate their surplus to poorer countries, and I?m glad that some countries have committed to doing just that. If we aren?t motivated by moral or ethical responsibility, then at least we should be motivated to act from a global health standpoint.?

Her Majesty went on to talk about the cracks the pandemic has shown in our world: ?This pandemic has revealed and reinforced cracks in our world order, along lines of income inequality, gender inequity, and social injustice?this loss hasn?t been felt equally.

It's getting worse as King Abdullah's half-brother Prince Hamzah (the former Crown Prince) is now under house arrest.

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-56626370
Quoten the video recorded on Saturday, he says: "I had a visit from the chief of general staff of the Jordanian armed forces this morning in which he informed me that I was not allowed to go out, to communicate with people or to meet with them because in the meetings that I had been present in - or on social media relating to visits that I had made - there had been criticism of the government or the king."

He says he was not accused of making the criticisms himself.

However, he went on to say: "I am not the person responsible for the breakdown in governance, the corruption and for the incompetence that has been prevalent in our governing structure for the last 15 to 20 years and has been getting worse... And I am not responsible for the lack of faith people have in their institutions.

"It has reached a point where no one is able to speak or express opinion on anything without being bullied, arrested, harassed and threatened."

High level political arrests are rare in Jordan, a key US ally in the Middle East.

    Prince Hamzah's message in full

The country has a powerful intelligence agency that has been granted new powers since the coronavirus pandemic, which has drawn criticism from rights groups.

Egypt, the US and the Saudi Royal Court have expressed support for King Abdullah.

This is being referred to as a "coup."

Seeing the king's half brother and former crown prince under house arrest is certainly concerning.

I do have to wonder how Noor is feeling about everything going on.

The late King Hussein faced many issues when it came to his successor and IMHO the fact that he had many sons by three different wives didn't make it easier.  First it was Abdullah as CP from birth  but he was replaced by his uncle Hazzan in the 1960's due to the constant assassination threats and attempts on his elder brother. Later Hazzan was removed while Hussein was receiving treatment for cancer and replaced again by Abdullah. Abdullah though had almost no preparation over the years and had limited use of Arabic when he ascended to the throne. On his deathbed, Hussein wanted Hamzah (his eldest son with Noor) named as Abdullah's heir even though he already had a son. Hamazah was CP for some years, but then later replaced by his nephew Hussein (Abdullah and Rania's eldest son.)
