The British government has often used royalty on these kind of swift visits. They're regarded as 'soft diplomacy goodwill' sort of missions.

Apparently the PoW and Duchess of Cornwall are being dispatched to Italy in late March for a similar visit.

Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to visit Germany and Poland

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are to make a visit to Poland and Germany on behalf of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

The couple previously announced a two-day trip to Paris later this month.

Prince William previously travelled to Germany in the summer of 2016 where he attended some events in Dusseldorf which honoured the role of British Armed Forces based in the country.

It will be interesting to see if Prince George and Princess Charlotte accompany their parents.

I doubt that they will accompany them to Germany and Poland. The trips to Australia/New Zealand and Canada were Commonwealth nations that they will have a unique relationship with in the future especially if those nations opt to remain constitutional monarchies with Grandpa Charles as their Head of State.

The Cambridges are headed to France in mid-March  at the request of the Foreign Office and this trip will be similar.

We have wait and see if bring kids or NOT! Due two countries tours like Prince Charles as little boy who leave home with nanny while young Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip away for 3-6 months and HM Queen Mother stay with Prince Charles and Princess Anne I'm guaranteed Wills and Kate would bring nanny to watch youngester while Wills and Kate tours they wont distract the paparazzi and media on kids..
