Queen Mathilde gives keynote address at international conference in Brussels

Her Majesty Queen Mathilde of the Belgians and the Deputy Prime Minster and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Didier Reynders have inaugurated the international conference 'Children and Armed Conflict' at the Egmont Palace in Brussels.

The conference is being organised by Minister Reynders on the eve of 12 February, the International Day against the Use of Child Soldiers. They were joined by the Deputy Secretary-General of NATO, Rose Gottemoeller; the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict, Leila Zerrougui; and the EU Special Representative for Human Rights, Stavros Lambrinidis.

The focus of the conference will be on the development and implementation of policy for the protection of children by the UN and regional organisations.
