Broughton House in Northhamptonshire was constructed in a French style by Ralph, 3rd Lord Montagu, who had served as King Charles' ambassador to France in 1669, 1676 and 1677.   
In 1695 Lord Montagu received King William III in the splendid surroundings of Broughton House.
