I can't believe we never discussed this!!!
Those cakes are absolutely mouthwatering!!   :bdaycake:

QuoteGrace and Rainier's wedding cake was a culinary masterpiece. There were six tiers in all, making it taller than both bride and groom. The first level was decorated with three-dimensional replicas of Monaco's pink palace carved from sugar. Each of the other layers held scenes from Monaco's history crafted gently into the sides, and between the fourth and fifth layers, the Monegasque crest was duplicated in red and white spun sugar. The top held two cherubs standing upon clouds of filigreed icing, with a replica of the crown of Monaco suspended above their heads.

As with so many royals, the Prince and Princess used Rainier's ceremonial sword to cut the cake which was then packaged in white faille boxes decorated with white and gold rope and the intertwined initials "R" and "G", tied with golden cord, and distributed amongst the guests.
Wow!

Victoria's wedding cake was really innovative- circular disks. Nice idea!

Those are really some cakes - Victoria's is the only one that is not overly ornate, and to be honest, while it is plain, I do like it!

Thanks so much for this.
I think wedding cake of Princess Diana looks regal & elegant. Do you have some picture of Diana with/around her wedding cake?

This thread needs a disclaimer that it should NOT be read too late at night or if you don't have any dessert handy.

^^That's adorable! Reminds me of Cake Boss. Anyone watch that show?

pinkpearls

I have seen Cake Boss! My tv is usually on TLC or HGTV and I'm watching something food-related. Cupcake Wars is one of my favs.

I love the show, Cake Boss! My oldest daughter and I watch it all the time. His cakes are gorgeous.

It looks like Victoria can't believe how tall it is, either.

Clockwise from top left: Wedding cake from Phillip Mountbatten and Princess Elizabeth Alexandra Mary's (later Queen Elizabeth II) 1947 wedding—the 4-tier cake was created by British snack food company McVities & Price and measured 9 feet high and weighed 500 pounds. Wedding cake from Prince Charles and Diana Spencer's 1981 wedding. Wedding cake from Prince Rainer III and Grace Kelly's 1956 wedding.
