Title: No lace!!!!
Post by: LouisFerdinand on March 18, 2017, 11:14:13 PM
During the English Republic, 1649 to 1660, dyed clothing of any kind was out. It was against the law to be caught wearing lace or decorative ribbons. Puritans frowned on long hair too.

^ That's why they were known as the Roundheads!  Hair chopped quite close to the scalp and no long curls and ringlets. In that regard it's rather strange that in Oliver Cromwell's official portrait he has almost shoulder length hair.

I find it interesting how the Puritan movement impacted the American colonies and its history but seems to have just been a small footnote in the story of Great Britain IMHO. Guy Fawkes day seems to be the only reminder sometimes.
