The Fall of the French Monarchial Dynasty, August 10 1792

Wikimedia CommonsAugust 10, 1792 is considered a critical day in the French Revolution. It was the last day Louis XVI (May 10th 1774 to August 10th 1792) reigned over France thereby bringing to an end the French Bourbon Monarchy. It was also the beginning of a period in French history known as The Reign of Terror.

On the morning of August 10, 1792 insurgents stormed the Palace of the Tuileries, a royal residence located in the heart of Paris. The royal family managed to escape the assault on their residence unharmed, although the day became known as the bloodiest day of the French Revolution.
